Just wanted to say thanks to Curtis and the guys at EF for getting me back in the air so fast!! Unfortunately, the rainy weather prevented any flying this past weekend...
Glad you got it so quickly.....too bad the weather didn't cooperate....been raining cats and dogs here in Georgia....

Yep, we need the rain, but it's infringing on my flying!!! IMAC competition this weekend, and I plan to take the Edge with me for some extra curricular work

I am considering one of the 48" Edges, and have a (dumb?) question about a motor combo. I have a turnigy 750kv motor with a 55A SBEC. With a 4s pack and Vess 14x6 it is pulling about 5lb 11oz. of thrust. Would this be a good combo for this Edge?? I am not much into electrics (Electric FNG so to speak), I just have this motor combo in a .40 size nitro that I converted to electric on the cheap for a "low emotional attachment" beater. Looking for a better airframe....

That should be fine, of course I think you meant 750 W and not KV. The torque set up is about 700W. Check the weight against the Torque/airboss setup just so you know you might not be adding too much weight. If you get more than about 3 oz added I would consider something else. A 14 X 6 sounds like a big prop to me but if that is what you like go for it.
Good luck,
Jeff Williams

terryscustom, im not sure which motor you have but if it is pulling 5 3/4 lbs as you say it would be plenty of power. my extra (rated a few oz less than the edge) weighs about 3 lbs so it would be just under 2:1 ratio on your power setup. which means you could use a 13" prop if you wanted a slightly lower power ratio. as jwilliams says, it would be good to check the weight of your power setup vs the recommended/stock setup to make sure it balances the plane well.

i have a different power/KV setup and happen to use a 13" prop. i just looked at my plane (the extra) and while landing it has about 2" of prop clearance, so a 14" would have 1 1/2" clearance. i haven't heard of a 14 on this plane before, but it looks like it would be fine.

Terry, could you post a link to the motor? From what you posted, it sounds like it would work fine, but I am curious about the prop size. It seems like a 13x8 would be a better match, but again, I don't have all the specs.

This is the motor I have: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7708

Not that I can't buy a new motor, just curious if this thing would work since it only has a few flights on it. Seems to yank around my 4.25lb x .40 sized nitro plane pretty well. I did try a 13x8 and got almost identical thrust numbers on the fish scale, but I did not check RPM or amp draw.

Thanks for the input!!

That motor is acually a very good match. Do a bit of testing with the prop, and you should have a winner!

Great plane but after my second landing the landing gear broke. I fly off asphalt and it was not a hard landing. NOTHING even close to what Doc does. It broke right at the bend above the wheel. Must have been a defect in the gear. Extreme Flight has no replacements and doesn't expect any for 3 or more weeks. Stinks at the start of flying season!!

The gear from the Extra will bolt right up if you don't mind that it looks diffrent. The gear on my MXS broke and instead of waiting I just got the gear for the extra. And the MXS and Edge use the same gear, so I don't see why it wouldn't fit.

You can fix the gear by slotting in a carbon rod and laminating it with some FG or CF. Some people also heat it with a soldering iron and bend it further up the gear. That shortens the gear but makes them indestructible because the axle is attached to a thicker spot.

So I take it the gear breakage is pretty standard? Wonder if any of these would work?

They are designed to break before you can damage the gear plate and mounts. I wouldn't say it's common but I have seen it before.
