Awesome work!

About the maidening- I know you know your stuff, but please- please fly FAST! So many people lose these big projects put-putting around trying to look "scale." Heavy metal needs airspeed!

Keep it up!

Spot on right.

I am not putting anyone down by saying this, but people have to look at their skill set. Many of the planes I test fly the first thing I do after getting the bird trimmed out is get high and slow her way down. Get to know what she will do when you make turns at slower speeds. Then make a fast approach and practice a low fly by, then set her up for landing and make a fast approach and bleed off all my speed 6-8" of the deck until I flair. For some reason many good builders really suck bad at piloting. I believe it is because of stick time. I am really lucky as just about every night I either fly my small biplane, F4U, or heli. OR I am playing with my RC sim. I saw a guy once take of a B24 so slow he had now aileron control and slow rolled the plane into one huge pile of wood. IF HE would have understood that rudder is your friend he would have saved the plane. Some of these war bird guy (not all, and not even 75%, but a few) spend so much time building that they forget they have built a fast higher than average wing load performance machine.

Sorry to be so wordy, and I am not saying I am not prone to crashing this thing, but I hear you load and clear. IMHO you have to fly these big planes by the numbers and by the book. If not it is all over. I have seen a ton of P-51, and F4U's crash on final as the pilot gets to high of a sink rate started and instead of adding power pulls the nose up. THAT is instant death. When learn to fly full scale you learn attitude is airspeed, and power is altitude, same thing applies 110% to RC aircraft.

I have also had a few ask what would happened if the B-36 crashes, well I think that is a silly question, but I will let Big "E" answer that.

I may not be qualified.... I have test flown over 100 RC planes, flown model plane since I was 8, RC since I was 22, full scale since I was 26..... professional pilot???? Lets see scratch built 8 planes, 2 of my own design.

I know there are better pilots than me, lets see, Chuck Yeager, Scott Crossfield, gosh, can't think of any others right now.

Just a fyi all, I was being silly here, hope you got the humor. There are tons of better pilots in the world, and many are very good friends of mine. But as a guy the loves to test fly planes no one else will touch this bird.

A lot of this here is in good fun.....

So the guy that sent me the creepy mean, and very nuts e-mail, ranting about me thinking I am the best in the world, please get out of the house once in a while and go flying. You may go blind if your not careful....

  1. People need to understand that any time and money you put into this hobby is gone as soon as you spend it. Do not expect to get anything back. If you go into a project with this in mind it kinda puts things in perspective.
  2. If it happens to survive to the point were you sell, trade or dissassemble for the next project you are very lucky.
