Question
has anyone done a DLE 55 to DA 60 swap? Will the DA bolt right up?

has anyone done a DLE 55 to DA 60 swap? Will the DA bolt right up?

I got a used airframe that had a DLE55… I want to use a DA6o but I don't want to do a bunch of surgery or drill mounting holes that end up being very close, etc….

IIRC, the da 60 doesn't use standoffs. I thought it used wood spacers.

Btw, ask terryscustom or robbinsp, I think they have experience with both engines possibly swapping them out.

I believe it uses the wood, but you still have to drill the firewall to bolt it up to… but I hear you.

He can only make them when a machine is free in the shop. But when he has a free machine, he makes 12 or so at a time.........

Just swapped a dle55 out for the da60 in an 87" 3dhs extra.
Bolted right up. I used the da supplied spacers. Had to make a few more.
I used the same mounting holes.
The throttle servo had to be moved and the choke was a little
different. But it wasn't bad at all.

Night and day difference!!! Running a Vess Stealth 23b prop. It's like a giant foamy.
Hovers a a quarter throttle and will jump right out.. Prop is starting to rip a little as the engine gets
more time on it. Spools up real quick. Only thing was I had to retard the timing all the way
against the screws. It had a high speed miss. It's all good now.

Did you loose any rpm off the top end backing off the timing?

And did it also reduce some of the low end vibrations?

The few 60's I have seen were nasty in the lowend

Honestly I have not put a tach to it. I have seen a few of the 60's with a rough idle.
I used the plywood mounts supplied. I think they are key in aiding the low end vibrations.
I have read of others having the timing issue. I Like to get some fuel through before fine tune.
It runs better each tank. I will say the low end needle is sensitive. Small adjustments.
It did idle a bit rough for the first few tanks. It's to the point now where I have to make an adjustment on the throttle. It wont Idle down enough now with the trim. I will tach it the next time we fly..

What serial number is your DA 60? They advanced the timimg on engines sent out in the mid or high 500's.

Yeah the Blazing Star mount is the really slick way to go, gives you better access to the throttle, choke and fuel line connections.

The bolt pattern should be the same but DA DOES NOT want either this engine or the DA-85 mounted with standoffs...
