I currently own Sachs based engines in the 2.4, 3.2 and 4.2 sizes and they all use 5mm .8 muffler bolts.

I know some people interchange 5mm and 10-32 on some applications, as they are so close...not that I recommend it...but people do.

If SAE, why do the 5mm bolts which are slightly larger then 10-32 fit the threads so well? Also, why would Sachs, Dolmer, Makita which are non US companies use SAE threads? Many Sachs cylinders are made by Mahle which is also European.

I can tell you when we send a muffler out for a sachs it comes with metric bolts. The 4.2 should be 5mm.

Makes sense the bolts are metric as the Sachs Dohlmer (sp?) was a german engine!

10-32s are 006 smaller than 5mm and will slip when tightened...
