CARF Edge 540 Build

Hi All
Just Received my New Edge 540 from Composite ARF
It was worth the wait !
The Level of pre fabrication is what we usually provide on our 3m planes
These include all control horns installed as well as the Canopy mounted.
This saves plenty of work and is done perfectly at the factory
The tube hinged Ailerons are done very well
I have attached a few pics for your pleasure and will add more as my build progresses
I expect to have it flying by New Years

Re: CARF Edge 540 Build

The instruction manual has not been yet written for the Edge but comes with a set of instructions for an Extra 260. The build is very similar and this manual should give the builder enough info to sucessfully build the plane. One difference is the landing gear drill pattern
I have attached a pic with the proper dimension. ( also not the extra hole if you want to use it on a 260!)
Regards

Bob, I always wondered why they didn't use pocket hinges on the ailerons, will Comp-Arf start putting them on their other models now??

The canopy doesn't come pre-installed, but the hatcch does. Normally with a c-arf you would have to dremel the slots and install the mounting tabs but c-arf has already done that for you on their latest kits.

Hi Folks
Been real Busy this week but here is an update
Span of each panel is 28.5 " Tip 12" root is 24.5 "
This puts the wing panels at about 1040 sq in
I am sure the fuse adds some effective area to the lift componant as well
I am guessing all up weight with 7 servos a DA 100 on mufflers will be about 26 or 27 lbs

Spinner size 5"
Header drop should be the same as the Extra ( will check on the actual measurements )
I am planning on using some 1 1/2" Air wild horns that I have in the shop If I cannot get enough throw I will go to 2" SWB Double Loc
I will be using turn buckeles on only the ruddder where I have 4 1/2" for a pull pull setup in the tail. otherwise I have always used the stock hardware with ball links on the servo ends as well.
Wheels can be 4 to 5" I will measure the gear legs in the future but they are the same as the 260
Wing tube is 50 mm Big!!
I will check on the Stab tube size
Canopy frame is pre installed but never the canopy ( in case of shipping damage )

Hi Rusty
I am guessing that the reason we are seeing the hinge pin on the ailerons on the Edge is because of the Counter balances on the ailerons ( this would be impossible with the skin hinging )
The pin hinge does add alot of work and cost to the airframe and I would think that it would only be used when necessary. Now that it has been done I think that it is possible that it may appear again. I wonder if the plane will still have the " CARF Scream " when it is rolling?
