a little bit ago someone mentioned the carb screws are tough to get at on the 120, are the da mufflers offset like these jtecs are? anyone try compact ones? they usually are tapered back on the front from top to bottom, that may help too, im getting close to having money for the engine so im thinking ahead

I used ply for both the pilot and panel. My plane is still in the 28lb range with DA120 and RE2's so I wouldn't worry about weight.

As far as carb needle access, I just drilled a hole on the left, front bottom of my cowling. I can get at the scews with the screwdriver at an angle. No problem at all. Here's a pic of the hole I drilled for the needles. If you want distances from the muffler stack I can get those for you.

oh maybe i missunderstood the one post, i thought he said it was hard to get to the screws regardless of cowl, because of the muffler itself, i got no problem cutting access holes in my crap to get to stuff, i thought it was a problem with the stock muffler so thought maybe the jtec ones would be different

well it took most today but my rudder is all done and set up, i did end up doubling up the phenolic horns on these cause one kinda cracked again, curtis thanks for the replacements and i can tell a difference from the ones i got, there is something up with the ones i had, not sure if they are soft and crumbly or hard and brittle, but something aint right, so i cut the base off the extra set and glued them on the outside of my existing ones then got a longer bolt to go through ball link, the rudder is done that way, im comfortable with my elevators being on the inner hole so im not going to double those up

I should be at Catalina on Sat.
As for getting to the needles, I don't have any holes drilled in my cowl whatsoever. I can get mine through the front cutout in the cowl plate. I run pipes so with mufflers it might be a different story.
