Can SmartFly Ignition Cutoff unit handle 7.4V?

Hi
Here's my problem:
I'll be running a 2s lipo via regulator for the ignition. However the reg switches itself off when not used for more than 5 minutes and cn be turned back on by disconnecting and connecting power. So if I connected the switch between reg and ignition, the switch would get 5V, but the reg would shut down and I would need to open the canopy to connect it back (no mechanical switches for ignition).

So in a nutshell- can I connect the smartfly ignition cutoff between 2s lipo and reg? I suppose it can handle it cause it's just a switch, but I wanted to make sure

Thanks!

Chris

why don't you use the inexpensive Smart-Fly ignition regulator and get rid of the reg that is causing the problem?

Will see how this works out and then order a new reg if needed.
Thanks for all the feedback

ignition reg, if needed, is just as important as any other reg on the plane - if it fails, the engine dies, and that's usually not good.

Sounds like this may be your first gas setup... There are a couple areas where you might save a few dollars (servos, different engine choices, etc..) but one area where you absolutely don't want to shave costs in in the power systems. Both for the receiver and for the ignition, go with good quality switches, regulators, batteries, etc.. Going second class on any of these will absolutely cost you a plane some day.

yeah, I think you're right. I'll order a better reg. Sill need to wait for parts anyways so this probably won't stop me for long.

Truer words were never spoken. I jumped this thread way late. I was reseraching the "Smart Fly Ignition Cutoff" and, at one point, my research found this thread.

Recently, I was at a fun fly with a few large scale aircraft (30% and larger). One gent assembled a 30% Extra on a budget. It was a Nitro Planes offering. He used off-brand batteries and regulators. He chose 4.8 volt batteries AND he was tossing around the bird with 7-servos!!

He paid dearly for it. Long story short, he had a Futaba Fasst system (not picking on Futaba...just stating facts) and he had an obvious drop in voltage that caused his receiver to "reboot". Had he been flying level and neutral, he made have stood a chance. At the time of the voltage drop he was attempting to pull out of a major loop...attempting...

He flew full throttle straight into the ground. Nothing, and I do mean nothing was left of the aircraft. He even snapped the exhaust right off the engine. It was a complete total...tooth picks every where!!

There a lots of choices for good regs and batteries. I use Fromeco Lithium Ion 5200 mah 7.4v batteries (dual) with two-Sahara 10a regs and two Badger Slider switches. Additionally, I use a powersafe receiver with two separate buses to handle the receiver/servo loads. I use a Froemco Lithium Ion 2600 mah 7.4v igintion battery with a Smart Fly optical iginition Cutoff.

Not that you have to use my choice of products BUT you should certainly use a similar setup for all planes 27% and larger (my opinion only).

Lastly, gassers NEED a transmitter operated ignition cutoff...PERIOD!!!

Be safe, not sorry

I disagree with that last sentance, gassers need to be able to shut down by the transmiter, ign.,or by throttle, or choke. don't forget not all gassers are E.I.

What do you disagree with? You can still do all of the above if you so choose with the Tx cutoff.

he said all gassers need a transmiter operated ignition cut off period.
