Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..
Please don't flame me... but I have always used ailerons with the rudder when I snap roll. I always pitched first, then snapped. I never realized that it is only elevator first, then rudder. I just read an article by Scott Stoops (I like and respect his articles a lot) and learned this. Who else has been using ailerons? Thanks.

Re: Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..
you mean to tell me that all this time I have been doing it wrong?
I too use all three elevator ailerons and rudder to do my snaps, i always thought that you used the ailerons to help the plane roll better, well I'll be jiggered. learn something new every day around here, I will try this the next time I fly |

Re: Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..
Ok I could be totally wrong here, but I have NEVER seen anyone flying precision snap an airplane with no aileron. True, many airplanes will snap this way, but it's typical in RC flying to use aileron in the snap. Using little to no aileron sounds more like a full-scale snap...

I tried this method a few times on models and it typically ends up being a barrel-ish roll and losing lots of energy. So I cheat and use ailerons heh. |

When you use ailerons its called a barrel roll.

For the most part I will agree that for RC scale aerobatic, planes ailerons help the snap. However, some high wing RC planes actually snap better without ailerons. This is just personal experience, and might not apply to others. LOL

Re: Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..
iv always had to use ailiron to make it snap fast enough,, tho iv only had smaller planes and they would do it with jsut rudder.. it just doesnt lok the same... my .02 cents

Re: Snap Rolls... I've been wrong all this time..
I first tried snaps as a teenager and my father was telling me how to do them. He flew full sclae not models and had snap rolled a Decathlon. He said elevator and rudder only. Some RC planes will snap good without ailerons but mostly if they have a high wing loading or snap tendencies built it. To do snaps with most RC planes you need ailerons to make them look like we want.
So I think rudder and elevator only is a full scale thing like others have said.... |
