I was doing a rolling circle, too close to the ground, and must have dumb thumbed it. Anyway, I found the plane pointing down, and not enough speed or elevator to get it pointed back up before it went in. I do rollers on low rates and just above idle, to keep things fairly slow and predictable. Unfortunately, when things go wrong, they tend to go very wrong.

Anyway, I'm sure this was a direct result of the clear covering peeling off of the black monocote, so Chris will probably have a warranty replacement with my name on it first thing Monday morning!!

It was a great flying plane, but there wasn't enough left of it to even think about fixing. It went nose in to the dirt, the spinner plowed in the soft mud about 6 inches or so. The motor is pretty stiff to turn, so that needs to go back to DA for service.

So, long story short, I've got a couple of weeks to figure out what's next while the motor is being repaired. I may get another one of these, it was a great combo with the 85.
Dang sorry to here man hat to see this.

Honestly, it has been so windy this year and it has been a "deal with it or stay home" kind of thing. Now, when there is no wind, I fly worse without it. If it is cross winds, I leave the SFG's off.

OK... after a very short, unplanned departure from EF Extra ownership... I'm back, this time with the blue scheme.

I was trying to decide on either another extra, a Yak, or a CARF Edge (the CARF Extra wing tube is too low in the fuse to allow a tuned pipe). Then this morning, I realized that I already have a radio setup, mixes and all, for the Extra... and being the lazy sort that's always looking for the easiest path, I made a spot decision to stay with the EF Extra. I did change colors... hope that doesn't effect the radio setup too much!

The more I started thinking about it... I really liked the Extra, and from a building standpoint, I already have the correct servo arms, linkages, etc.. (those almost always cause me unplanned delays)... and I already have the pre-cut servo extensions to go to the back of the fuse for elevators and rudder. All of this would probably have worked just as well on the Yak, but I know that I like the way the Extra flies. Done.

Great move Mike. If I lived as close as you, I'd be in trouble...

They are way too close for comfort. I think I live closer to the store than Chris Hinson does.

Good choice!

I'm glad I live an hour away. (and still ~30 mins from where I work)
It's 'just enough' to deter me from running to EF and Atlanta Hobby every time I think about it.
(But still close enough for whenever I finally decide I just have to have whatever it is.)

Kinda like having your own local, dependable crack dealer... except this habit can get eggs-pensive!

Well, I let the plane sit all week while I was working on a big opportunity at work... so I spent a little time on it this evening. I got all the control surfaces glued, and the servos & arms mounted on the wings, rudder & stab... Sure makes easy work of it when all the servos & extensions are already set up! I think it only took me about one and a half hours to get all the hinges glued and servos mounted.

I'll be out of town all of next week, so it will collect dust until the weekend.. and I suspect we'll have to go down to the in-laws place for most of the weekend. Seems like life gets in the way of every plane I build, but that's not a bad thing.
