Edgeman 540, can you post the type of baby oil, brand and bottle size and which mix you actully used for those pictures posted?

That smoke looks awesome. What about the airplane? Dirty or so, so?

Thanks

There isn't a set ratio. When I mixed mine up I just thinned it out slightly.
3/4 of a gallon oil to 1/4 diesel.
I just used this for a quick fix because i ran out of oil.Normally I use Super Dri.Fox sells some really good smoke oil thats suppose to be better that Super Dri.
Snap used it and it smoked so good it darn near shut the flightline down at the nall.
Just something to think about.

I used generic Wal Mart brand baby oil because it was the cheapest.I don't remember the actual bottle size but the ratio I mixed it was 3/4 of a gallon baby oil to 1/4 gallon diesel. You could also mix it 50/50 and probably have the same results.
The mess on the plane wasn't any worse than using Super Dri.
With that said set your pump as you would if using regular smoke oil.The key to good smoke is keeping the mufflers hot so most of the oil burns. The more oil volume you pump into the mufflers the faster they cool.
I've also tried straight diesel but the smoke wasn't as dense and didn't linger as long as with the baby oil added.
I hope this helps.

Re: Make Your Own Smoke Oil?

Here's a list I compiled:

- Diesel & Concrete Form Release Oil 50:50 (obtained from construction industry goes under the
name of Chevron/Texaco "Canopus 13" oil [formerly called Corvus Oil], EXXON Unuius-15,
SUNOCO 222, Corbisol.) * Form release oil contains several carcinogens!!!*

-Shell Oil Company "Vitrea 22" with Faxum oil as a backup

-Kerosene Diesel & kerosene 50:50 * This works, but the smoke is greyish, and doesn't linger too long. But I did not try different ratios.

-Diesel and Automatic transmission Fluid 50:50
* I have used this, it works, but makes a mess.*

-Diesel and small amount of butyl carbitol (used by clothes cleaners) no more than 30% butyl carbitol

-Diesel oil No. 2

-Lemon oil

-EXXON Mentor 28

-LAMP OIL by Lamp Light Farms and 40% HAVOLINE 5 OR 10 WEIGHT OIL.
HAVOLINE is a parafin based oil, seems to work best in smaller 2-strokes

LOL, we had an 88 with a 3.0 mitsubitchy V6 in it. you had to put oil in it every time you put gas in it. The valve guides in those engines were more like oil guides. Ahh the good ol days!

I had one of those too. The valve guide are just fine, it's the little rubber top hats on the valve stems that go bad. They all go right at 100k. If you have a dealer fix it they have to pull the heads and we know how much that will cost. If you do it your self with a little compressed air to hold the valves in place it costs about $6.00 in parts. No more smoke.

I always thought all Mopar products were pieces of sh*t and still do.The valve seals were only one of their many history of problems.Since I got a good deal on it and only needed it to get to and from the flying fields I figured what the hell.

Re: Make Your Own Smoke Oil?

Although Mopar did have many engines that employed the same rubber top hat valve seals (that's where I learned the trick) all those 3.0ltr engines came straight from Japland they're Mitsubishi engines. I sold my last Montero with just shy of 500k on the clock. Dropped in a low mile used engine at about 300k and she was rock in and rollin when I sold it. Very solid rig! Many, Many offroad miles and she was never towed out of the woods which is more than I can say for any of the American 4X or the T brand everyone is so enamored with.

I use 25% jet A and 75% carnuba oil The jet A is free, sump fuel and the Carnuba oil was free I got a 55 gal drum from the hanger next to ours. A airshow team left it many years ago.

So..... if you mix in some hashish, what ratio do you go for? Not too sure the AMA would approve. Look what it did to Laforge.......
