Re: DL-30 / DLE-30
All two stroke rings are pinned to keep from turning...About 99% have the locator pin on the intake side, the arrow points to the exhaust port...
The person who set up the piston for the wrist pin bore rotated it slightly, the bore is centered in the piston body but slightly off centered in the bosses... |

Yes, I had considered the space between the bearings, and you're right there of course, it is more crankcase space, - but you're also creating a lot of space by having a webbed crank, rather than having a full circle one - that doesn't seem to matter anymore - maybe all the large transfer passages also create more crankcase volume too! Note: I'm not trying to rock the boat, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it all and making suggestions (which can be refuted by anyone), - ie. so long as they know what they are talking about, - I'm listening to all those people who (I think) do know, and have been for a few weeks, including you Jody. I have no connections with any businesses in this field , I'm just plain interested and am very willing to learn, - basically I am no threat to anyone here - I just ask that I can have an opinion as well. - I live in a free country too! - but it's still hard to get accepted nevertheless! |

When was the last time you seen a 2-stroke piston that wasn't directional Last time I looked into a Ryobi (I thinkl) Maybe in the "olden days " of two strokes crankcase volume was a factor.. Just for kicks I cut the crank webs clean off a GT80, and narrowed the round center part.. The engine ran just as well or better than it did before.... So much for conventiional wisdom..Try it, it works, and you get a lighter engine... |

Re: DL-30 / DLE-30
If the piston had a ring end gap locating pin it is directional, if the piston ring passed over open ports it has a locating pin, if the piston opened and closed the scavenging ports, it is a 2-stroke. Again, show me a 2-stroke piston that isn't directional.
I can see adding a light weight dummy counter balance to a cantilever crank as a crankcase stuffer, has been done many times but try cutting the counter weight off of a single cyl. cantilever crank, better hope your teeth are in tight. |

Re: DL-30 / DLE-30
Can't do a single without counter weight just twins.. Works great...
I will send you a piston from a Q35 tomorrow..NO PIN, NO LOCATOR ARROW, ANY DIRECTION WORKS. Helll, I'l send you the whole engine if you want it...I have a Q35 block so old the spark plug comes straight out from the front..Was in an old Sears chainsaw.. I shalll expect a full and complete apology and retraction..Thank you.. |

Ok Jody (Jedi) you win, - but then, you're just a boy and there's just no point in trying to talk to you kids about the quality stuff you could get in the good ole days. - what was wrong with steam anyway?

Re: DL-30 / DLE-30
Really not trying to win anything, I understand where you're coming from looking at a bunch of parts trying to see how it can be improved, I applaud you for that. If you read all of this thread you must know I spent many, many, hours doing the same...and more.

Re: DL-30 / DLE-30
Don't worry Jedi, I mean Jody, I think we're both very interested in engines and we both like a good laugh now and again too!
BTW, is the side carb model completely off the market now? - I thought that had all been sorted out, - how come they don't sell both (other than all the old stock)? - I still have a side carb case which I also want to try out later on. Another thing I would like to ask you guy's opinion on, - is there really a need for the small locating pin on the backplate - (ie when you fit the rear carb backplate kit)? |
