New scheme for my QQ Yak 54

My QQ Yak 54 deserved a new look after some years, covering was peeling off due to tropical sun, it was a good desicion because of a hard landing months ago.

I changed all of bottom fuse hard balsa strips with CF, it's now better and will resist any non intentional bad landing

Almost done, have to repair cowling and paint it along with cabin, decoration on wings, stab and up she goes.

Looks great! I love a good refurbish. I think it’s cool to give a plane a second chance / fresh start.

Just curious - Which covering product did you use? Thanks!

Ah! Okay. Didn’t expect that. Thank you. What is your technique for layering the trim, on top of the base covering?

just use mixed soap n water sprayed over base, before applying it, use a old cc to remove excess water and let dry.

So was the hobby king covering like ultracote or monocote? How was the stretch when shrinking it?

It's not a bad product, although color fades if you leave the plane under sun for long periods at airfield.
Applying in my opinion is the same but you have to be careful with iron heat, much lower than others, shrinks really well n fast.

The low temperature scares me.. I have seen some coverings melt from the exhaust residue from gas motors.
