Harv,
Are you done playing with those helicopters and coming down next week for some real flying?

Now I'm just hoping for good weather this weekend to get some trim flights in.

Do you think I should have enough power given a 27lb dry weight? haha
I think you're going to have to add more weight.

Or a drogue chute to land at idle.

I flew a few contests last year with a DA-100L which is about the same weight and it was fine even in heavy winds.

should be a fun time. Just did the reed block change on my 170 so see how it runs. gotta change the clunk line out. surprising amount of work to get it ready again. too much maintenance. They should have a repair and overhaul facility for model planes. hahaha

CACTUS CLASSIC

We had our first SW contest the Cactus Classic. It was all about Cheri. She decided to take the plunge and move up to Sportsman. I was proud and impressed. She did way better than I did when I moved up.
She did her known very well. She got 5 zeros on her first round but none on her second! She got one zero from one judge on her unknown and that was for I am guessing too many deductions on the manouver cuz she spiraled on a loop but got right back in line. The other judge gave her a decent score. We did not look but I would bet she was in the top 5 in her unknown. We will find out later.
Anyway she did not come in last and there were more than ten pilots. I believe she came in 9th or 8th we forgot to check our places at the end.
There were 47 pilots. We had a freestyle on Saturday. I did okay. They tell you to fly low. They want you to put on a show. It was very fun. They actually flew it again on Sunday. I had taken my plane apart so I didnt fly. I wasnt expecting that! I actually judged it on Sunday. Spencer won it. They kid is very good. He has become a great pilot.
I got close to last place in the Imac portion of the contest. I had a hard time keeping my plane in. I was getting blown out but I kept using the wrong rudder while inverted. And of course I got further and further out. When you do that your gunna have a hard time.
We found a field even closer to our house. Its 15 minutes away. We went out to the desert, indian land, we pulled up to a guys house and there were people outside. We asked him if we could fly our planes there. He said yes. He had been trying to learn to fly on the sim and had crashed a plane in his backyard. Its a big big big backyard. His name is Bill and we and any friends we want to bring can fly there anytime we want!
We are hoping for good weather for you upcoming contest.
See ya soon!
Darren n Cheri

I think you've seen Daniel H. freestyle with 3 of these planes as a reminder of how well they fly. Not that they fly themselves...

Good to see you all got your first contest under your belt down there. I sounds like Cheri did better than you by brother.
Tell her to keep up the good work with that Godfrey.
BTW What did you find wrong on Cheri's plane that was causing the glitch?
Michael
