After laying it all out I think I'll need one but I know the Rx will kill the ign or not make it active if turned off

I also use an external switch with the smart-fly unit since it has it's own ignition battery. With IBECs like the Tech-Aero unit which are only powered when the receiver is on, I usually don't bother with an external switch.

Most of us have gone away from the extra switch. It's more personal preference if you want the switch on the side of your plane. I don't use it with my setups. It's an extra failure point. Most electronic switches are more reliable than mechanical.

So your saying I can run this ign kill with just 1rx switch?

The smartfly only draws like 3mah/month if plugged in. My older planes still have a mechanical switch as backup, but my newer planes only have the smart-fly. I take all my batteries out at the end of the day anyway. Instead of having several batteries slowly dying in my airframes, I only have one set that I maintain and replace them every 2 years.

You don't need an extra switch. I only run a mechanical switch if I leave the ignition battery in the plane so that I have a way to charge it.

Same here. I have two flight pack switches on my planes. No separate "ignition" switch anymore. I've got Smart-Fly kills on two of my planes, and a Tech-Aero on the 104.

I went with no ignition switch, the batteries get unplugged at the end of the day and the kill switch has a charge port.much cleaner look. The 108 is literally hours away from being done.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
You do not need to use a switch with the Ignition Cutoff. When the receiver is off there is no power to send a light beam down the fiber-optic cable so the Fiber-optic receiver shuts off. It does draw about 5mAH per DAY (2600mAH battery will go about 500 days before discharging) when off. You can use the "Charge" lead to check/charge your ignition battery if you put it in a charge jack (like an Ernst).
