The J3 could be soloed from the front as well. It would be nose heavy but not so that it wouldn't fly. One of my friends up here used to have one and was telling me about it the other night. I was always of the belief that it had to be soloed from the rear seat, no exceptions. I learned something new as well.

You could also check with Bill Hempel. The ones on my 40% cub are 8". He also sells a 50cc version that would have about 6" wheels on it. They are the Cub type. They come in molded yellow plastic, but I painted mine white to match the scheme. I bet the 50cc wheels would work good on yours.

I have a set of the Dubro big wheels that came on a roadrunner I got from a local but Holy Batsh&t Robin they are heavy!!!!!!!!!!!. I still may have to try them just to see as this Cub came out to feel very light. The lightweight 1/3 scale wheels from Tower look like the way to go though.

I bet the weight difference between the 2 styles has to be a lot. If you know the difference that would be great to know.
Thanks

Here you go. I had bought both for my AW Sport Cub. I decided on the Cub wheels. They are better looking and the yellow hubs match my plane. As for weight the Cub wheels are 8.5 oz each and the 6" balloon wheels are 11.5 oz each. The Cub wheels are wider but are just about a 1/2" less diameter.

Thank you Super08, I think I will go with Cub over balloon. It's almost another Cub wheel in weight difference when 2 are used and I really like the width. As someone mentioned I can paint the yellow to white to match mine

The 200mm (8"+) Airtop wheels/tires weigh 540g each, or about 19oz, but they're worth the weight! They look so cool, match up to a 31" tundra tire about as perfectly as you can measure, and don't bother this Super Cub a bit. They're the only ones that really look like the right sized tundra tires. 6" DuBros just ain't getting it done.
