i wanted to build a 24 x 24 SF 2 car garage (AKA = work shop!!)
but the city states if it is over 675 sf total, i need to apply for a city council public hearing to get a permit to build.
so today, before i walked in, i changed the plans from 24 x 24 to 23 x 22 feet, now, total SF will be 666
so i am almost good to go. they will type a letter, i need to get my neighbors to sign it, then they will or should, i imagine, allow me to build. once i get the permit, i will call my friend and get started on pouring the concrete slab for the foundation!!
Ortho, thats a bad juju number,I would make it 23.2x22.6,then it will be 667sf and good to go

The last few years I've been renting a basement with no shop space, so my planes and i lived in the same room. Then, my fiancé got hit with the stage 3 colon cancer, was unemployed, and moved in with me during chemo. Talk about combined households! Two adults sharing almost 700 sqft with a lifetime airplane collection in the same space is a sure way to drive your woman up the wall! But, lucky for me she's working again, and with some help from uncle Sam we were able to afford a tiny bungalow in a fairly decent neighborhood with a ~ 17'x17' garage with gated backyard. My business necessitates I have a shop to work in, so I needed to get all the airplanes up off the floor, and have room to build cabinets.

Here is how you turn 300 sqft into a full on airplane heaven, and woodshop. I will be focusing on the airplane bit.

My working garage and the storage garage.
Still a few planes on the walls but quite a few are gone now.

Ok you guys asked for it

I took off work for four months to build my shop. I built it for less than half and the way I wanted it. I started haling in sand built pad dug ditches my self. Everything my self no help from no one. Everyone was working it was hard by my self I had a 26' beam that about ate my lunch but I survived it. I wanted a steel building but with 2x4 walls with insolation. Finished just like a house on the inside. You would not believe what they wanted to do it that way. The steel building guys refused to even bid it. Ok enough talk lets see the pics. Weight I have to apologize for the mess. I have been hard at it the past two weeks next week I will clean.
