fiberoptic ignition cutoff

Hi Robert,
I was at Bennet field yesterday, in the process of setting up my plane I checked the radio controls before I put the canopy on.
I noticed that the fiber optic cut off wouldn't turn off.
So I re-cut the end of the optic cable, no joy.
Then I put some black electrical tape around the coupling where the optic cable connects, no joy.
In the process of shading the sending unit with my hand I discovered that if I put some tape over the little green LED the unit worked OK .
Is it possible the green LED is leaking light?
Or is something else going on?

Thank you for your reply.

Re: fiberoptic ignition cutoff

Hi Larry,
You have a really old unit that has the blue fiber-optic transmitter. That transmitter was semi-transparent to infrared light and would cause the Cutoff to stay on in direct sunlight. There is nothing wrong with your transmitter, you just need to make sure that it is never in direct sunlight. If you like you can send it in and I will replace the transmitter with a new black unit that is opaque to infrared light.

Bob is probably one of the most customer service oriented guy in the business. I would even say he rivals DA. That's why Smart-Fly is in 100% of my planes!
