Prop hub balance,how critical?

Do you guys and gals all balance the hub? The blades would obviously make a lot more damage if out of balance.

I have a Xoar with a hub a little off and I'm in the process of adding CA to a piece of velcro I put on the hub.

I always balance the blades, then the hub, spinner backplate and the spinner cone. I use lead tape to balance the prop hub, spinner back plate and spinner cone when needed.

A two blade is pretty easy/quick to balance, three blade is more of a challenge.

Lead Tape

I generally use it on golf clubs to add weight to the club head or to hit a specific "swing weight" that a golfer prefers. I've used it to balance my ceiling fan blades as well. I guess you could use it on just about anything that needs a small amount of weight added to it.

It's easy to work with however being lead it is hazardous. It seems to stay in place pretty well, I've not had any break loose or come off due to centrifugal force.

This is my 27X10 two blade with the lead tape to balance the prop hub.

Both tips and hub, very important. The hub can make it drop pretty fast if it's off. And they are always off on the hub a little. Except Mejzlik. That was the only perfect prop I've had.

Use #2 x 3/16 button head screws. Much neater.

I still would like to see a video of the VBR balancing process if anyone knows of one out there.

Jaketab how long are those screws? I kind of like the idea but it concerns me inducing stress concentrators to the prop. I have been using the lead tape for 30 years and if ou want your blade back to the new starting balance you can.

The VBR is such a great tool. I got one last year for my 120, and it was super easy to do. Just stick the assembly on a balancer and add set screws until its balanced.

Do you also balance the spinner at the same time?
