Thanks! You've been a great help answering all my noob builder questions

Yea, I learned to draw almost 19 years ago, and I don't know what I would do without it. Guess I finally get to put it to good use. This will be my first ground-up scratch build that is not a profile or small slimmer. I'll start a new thread on it next week sometime, with any luck.

Ok, looks like you just use the Allen heads in the kit. They just didn't seem right.

Thanks

Couldn't hurt to add a little epoxy to that landing gear plate, I harrier land the thing all the time and actually broke the G10 plate and pushed it up into the balsa formers a little. Ever since I added some Epoxy I've been harder than ever on it and never had a problem.

Minor setback, again, but I'll laser new parts tonight......looks like the wing tube location is changed and does not match the plans or wing root rib. The overall sizes of these parts all match, just tube location. Any of you with the larger version have these problems?? I'll just laser a new part, but I'm going to do the math and see if the CG shown is correct since the whole wing will actually move slightly.

With any luck I'll still get these puppies sheeted this weekend. Wood and remainder of my hardware showed up today for the next build

My roots were larger than the foam cores. So after the wing was sheeted I lined up the wing tube openings and sanded the root to fit. I am not sure if you have that option?

Nope, if I line up the tube hole, the root rib misses the leading edge of the wing by 5/8". The roots are almost 1" wider (taller) than the foam cores, but are about 1/16" longer is all.

sounds like you got hyperlite wings which are much thinner than standard build wings.

I'm just gonna roll with it, they look good and it'll take a few minutes to make a new root.

Bought one of those gun style soldering irons and made myself a servo wire chase-maker today. Wife was wondering what the heck I was doing.....she gets it now.

Mine were a bit bigger also and the holes were slightly higher or lower(can't remember). Mine were lightened quite a bit so there was not much more than an outline left...which is cool...but due to the way the holes lined up I had a bit more wood on one side than the other. I planned on putting a sheet of balsa over the root anyway so it worked fine. The ribs matched the leading and trailing edge fine though.

The problems you are experiencing are the reason I like to build my own from plans. What material did you use for the foam templates?

I bought some phenolic sheet, it's like Formica but without the decorative side. I scored a huge pc. of Formica at the big box store for about $11 I cut it with a router on my CNC at high RPM so the cut edge is glass smooth.
