Evolution 116 ignition needs LIPO Battery?
I was reading my evolution manual trying to setup the ignition battery and I read that it requires a 9-13 VOLT ignition battery! I tried to lookup something on here about it, but wasn't able to find anything. I kept reading and coulnd't even find another engine that uses that high of volts for the ignition. It makes me a little nervous. IS ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH THE EVOLUTION 116 GX2? It specifically says that you need a lipo battery or between 9-13 volts for operation several times on ignition and in the manual.
Assuming that they (evolution/MVVS) know what they are talking about, and you do really need a 12 volt power supply, what battery would you all recommend? I am going to be using A123 batteries for the 7 other 8711 servos, (hanger 9 extra 260 35%). Would you get another 3 cell A123 at 9.9 volts with a little extra weight, or just use an unregulated lipo battery? The other question I have is that the ignition only has a JR plug for the battery to the ignition. Would it be ok to run a lipo or A123 battery through a single JR plug? Any other information that I might need to know would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all for your help! -Parker |

Seems the Evolution ignitions need a little more juice. I have the 45cc and it calls for 6.0-8.4 Volts. I looked over the 116 manual online and found were it says use a 11.1 Volt, 3 cell Li-po at 1Ah, or 9-13 Volt 9 cell Ni-Cd/Ni-Mh at 1Ah.

Would you use a 3 cell lipo or a 3 cell a123?

A 3 cell A123 will give you at least 10.2 volts for 70% of the capacity curve. If you are concerned about the weight of the 2300 mAh 3 cell pack you could use the 1100 mAh cells and save about 1/2 the weight, just charge more often.
