Ok did cg again.I have all batteries as far forward as they will go. I put 9 oz of weight around the standoffs. The "instructions" say the cg is at the rear of the wing tube ,then below that it says cg is 132mm from the leading edge, which is farther back than the rear of the wing tube.
At the rear of the wing tube, it was still a tad tail heavy. I moved the cg just behind the tube to 132mm and it's close. So I will try 10oz and maiden it. I most likely will remove weight. It does appear that I am using lighter batteries than others have,so the weight is needed. It also seems like everyone comes out nose heavy and removes weight or shifts batteries. Only way to know for sure is to fly the damn thing.Trying for the next couple weeks hopefully |

Ant, good to hear your getting it sorted. I'm still waiting for another round on mine to really get a better feel for it. The few solid flights I've had have be been good. You will be happy with the way it fly's.

Ok, I settled on a cg location. About 130mm from the leading edge, which seems to be between the suggested range. It took 11oz of lead. I made a plywood platform and mounted it on the lower engine standoffs, then zip tied 11oz of fishing weights on it. If it is too much,I can remove weight or add as necessary. I do think I may be nose heavy, hope so anyway. We'll see. Try to start it up this weekend and tune it.

Plane is done after a lot of dragging my feet.
I made a half assed tray between the standoffs for ballast. 11oz in total. I weighed the plane and it's 11lbs12oz. dry, definitely came out heavy from the lead. I hope I nose heavy and can remove it. The fuel can I made myself tonight. Took all of 5 minutes. |

Well, after far too long,I finally maidened the Sbach yesterday..
All worries of cg being tail heavy were quickly put to rest,it was spot on. I checked it in flight by rolling inverted on an upline, she barely pulled to the belly. Two clicks of up elevator was all that was needed. I used quite a lot of expo ,even on low rates. This plane is so easy to fly,I could train someone to fly on it,no joke. Not touchy at all, just a pleasure. Inverted flight needed just a tiny bit of down elevator. Knife edge was easy and looked great. That was the extent of aerobatics til next time. We had a 5 knot crosswind that did not affect the plane whatsoever. Due to time,I could only get in 2 flights,12 minutes and 8 minutes. Engine needs a tiny bit of fine tuning, but ran great. Pretty happy with the result.. |

Maiden Flights
Ant, I knew you would like it. Mine is the same. I am now building the Redwing 50cc MXSR in the yellow, black and silver scheme. I thought the Sbach was a nice build but wow.......the MXSR is easily one of the best ARFs I have built. I love the Redwings!!!

Just got back from the field, put 3 more flights and 40 minutes of flying on this plane.
Realy like the plane, very slow stall speed and no bad behaviors yet,but I have'nt pushed it too hard. Knife edge tucks to the gear a bit, will mix that out over the weekend. DLE running really well, still a bit rich on the low end,but great. |

You should let me see how you did your bottom hatch
I am guessing it has one like the MXSR ? |

Its there for electric conversion, a place for batteries. It also accesses the rear of the canister chamber. I found it a nice place to access for wiring to hide a lot of it while routing.
