33% SD Yak Electrified

Im about to embark on the conversion, I am having some final geuss's on the setup, I know I am using an A-80 hacker motor, if that will be enough power of course... As far as the esc goes I will be usin the Castle Ice 160 Hv. This is deffenetly my first experience with large electronics so I will be needin some guidence along the way. Next I was lookin into the battery deal and I came across these suckers that looked like they were priced pretty well. I know about the MAH rating and that "S" means number of cells??? But the have no idea on the whole c rating thing. These are the batteries I am considering getting, would more C's be more power?http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0mAh_6S1P_25C_
Also I am totally lost on a charger to purchase so some help with that would also be great.
Thanks guys, look forward to getting some pics goin and gettin this thing in the air.

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

Yes, S is the number of cells.
C rating is the amount of current the battery is capable of discharging.
25c x 5000mah = 125A continuous
30x x 5000mah = 150A continuous
35c x 5000mah = 175A continuous

To charge a 6s 5000mah pack at 1c (5A) you'll need a 150-200watt charger capable of charging a 6s pack.
A 100watt charger will be limited to about 4A charge rate with a 6s pack.

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

Thanks Jagged, that clears up alot of questions, so would a 35c discharge battery be to much for the Ice 160 ESC? I also just realized that I do not know the difference between the Hacker A80-8 and A80-10? So im geussing that I would be using two of the battery packs, is there a charger that is under 200 that could charge both of them? And is it that the more watts the charger puts out the faster it charges?

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

you cant over amp your esc with a battery. It will depend on your motor/prop selection will make up how many amps you draw.

The more watts a charger is cappable of putting out will allow you to charge faster for example. 100 watts / 22.2v equals 4.5 amp out put and with a 200 watt charger it is 200 /22.2 = 9 amps

Hobby king sells some 200 watt chargers for 60 bucks each I use one and it charges and balances very well. If you want a link i can give you one.

Also I would go with the turnigy or flight max 40c lipo series because they will last longer and are realitivley cheap

Thanks again guys, so would two of the 35c 6s packs from flight max be good? Any difference in qaulity between flightmax and turnigy? If you could link me to a charger good for these that would be great. And is there difference in power between the A80-8 and A80-10?

I dont know much about those two motors.

Aerobatic: 50cc, 10s, 24x12.

A80-10 180kv:
Sport: 28lb plane, 10s 26x12.
Aerobatic: 50cc, 12s, 24x12.

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

Thanks, I am hoping that I will be able to keep the yak around 20 lbs, and with the cowling I would think it would need a larger prop, so would one or the other suit my needs better? I plan on orderin these up sometime this week. Im hoping that the A80 will be enough as it says its made for 50cc planes.

Alright, so theres now difference in performance between the two? Will I need to get connectors ordered for the pack to esc connection?

kv = rpm per volt.

218kv motor on 10s (33v) = 7194rpm.
180kv motor on 10s (33v) = 5940rpm.

Lower = bigger prop.
Higher kv = smaller prop.

You will have to make or find an adapter to wire the batteries in series. That will double the voltage and keep the capacity the same. 2 6s 5000 wired in series = 12s 5000mah. 2 6s 5000 wired in parallel will be 6s 10000mah.
ESC's usually come without connectors to allow you to use whatever kind you want.

With higher voltage setups the current is lower.

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

So wouldnt a 218kv motor spin a bigger prop at higher rpm? Or is it a torque difference? It says that the this charger, which I will purchase http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store...r_&_discharger has jst connecters, i prefer the deans, could I just cut the jst's off and put deans on it? Sorry for my illiteracy with electronics but does series mean the batteries will be connected to a Y sort of connecter where they both get wired into one deans connector or is there a connection for each battery on the esc? I will deffinetly be using a 12s setup so I dont know if that will increase the strain on the motor or esc. Ill be getting the Ice controller soon along with the charger and batteries and I'll get the rest cleared up from there. Thanks for all the info Jaggededge !

Re: 33% SD Yak Electrified

the jsxt are the balance plug on the battery the charger comes with a deans main charge plug connected to banana connectors that plug into the charger (like every other charger made). U hook up eather just the deans to charger or to balance charger u hook up both I can take a picture of mine if you want me to show you?

The higher kv motor will draw more amps with a bigger prop.

Putting them in series does require a y type connector if I were you I would just buy a series deans connector (or I have one I can give you) so that you make sure you get them in series.

Alright, so would it be safe to run the higher kv with a bigger prop or does that mean FIRE? haha, you think you could link me to one of those series plugs?
