Re: T-rex 500 Tail wag!

highlights,

did you check your bolts on the tail grips? The slow or fast hunting is what my 250 was doing and it was a loose bolt in the tail. If you move the rudder does the tail stop easily on its own, or is everything super sluggish?

No all checks out just fine. Lubed it as well for good measure.
I went ahead and just started flying it . Seems fine while under power and rippin around. It's just while I've backed off and bringing her in for touchdown where she really starts to wobble . Or if I am just trying to hold a hover.

I am stumped guys. Everything has been touched on. There isn't anything else other than maybe the gy611 is too much for this small heli. Maybe a 401 better? I'll keep the gy611 and try it on a 700 nitro.

Maybe I got a lemon gyro.

Well the last thing you can do is start swapping stuff out. Start at tail servo, then gyro, and so on. I know its hard to do if you dont have extra equipment laying around, but its the only thing i can think of.

Is your belt rubbing anywhere? I had a friend with a similar situation and it turned out that his belt was rubbing a bit. It would build up a static charge and stuff would get flakey for a bit, then it would discharge (I guess) and everything would go back to normal....

Re: T-rex 500 Tail wag!

OK , so heres the latest installment.

Today I went to the field. Turn on my TX. Plugged in the battery. Waited for the GY611 to initialize. I f$%^'d around with the canopy for 5 minutes or so before buttoning it on.

Stepped back and began to ramp it up. Upon lift off it spun violently. I set it down quickly to check things out. The power on the control amp was off. The screen was blank. ????????????

So I unplugged it , replugged it and it rebooted. Seemingly fine. Took it up for a quick hover and it was rock solid. No twiching or tail wag.

I am now scared to proceed as there seems to be something wrong here. More than just getting settings right. As a matter of fact I also noticed ( because I had to wait for some people to clear the area) that if left on the ground with the blades spinning at top head speed it eventually sounds as though the motor is losing RPM almost like battery cutoff then a little hop and it shuts down. Drop the stick to low, it then ramps right back up and has tons of power for flight. Whats going on here?
ESC? Motor? GY611? ( this is all new stuff for this heli)

Could be the servo lead connectors on the 611. Another item to eliminate is to temporarily put a dedicated receiver battery to power the system. Make sure you take the red wire out of the speed control plug!!!! There is a chance that the BEC in the speed control is being overloaded. Also go through the setup on the speed control and make sure its programmed properly.

HELP

Yes, apart from the above scariness, when he did have it flying for a while it was solid.

Highlights has his gyro mounted just above the boom, so I think he is going to move it to below the fuse as someone mentioned that is the recommended location for belt drive 500s. Something to do with belt etc.

I think Highlights is sending the gyro in for a checkup with Futaba after trying a different receiver.

Mark sent the 611 gyro / JR receiver in. Receiver checked out 100%. Gyro needed some work.... Both on there way back.
