Re: 40% laser 200

Scott
Check out my new 40% pilot. He doesn’t weigh much, only 8lbs 4oz. His name is Nick and be was born the day after Christmas. My first grandson. The funny thing is that if he were actually in the Laser, with his weight added to my 40% Laser the airplane still would weigh less than the majority of the 40% out there.

Sorry, could not resist the bragging opportunity.

I have been lurking here for a few days and reading all about Jack Strickland's Laser. I haven't flown in about 10 years but I have one of Jacks Lasers up in my storage building. It is a great flying machine powered by a 3W 120. If I remember correctly it weighs 33lbs and goes vertical until you can't see it. I also have a Jack Strickland Stearman that is a beautiful airplane. It has a Quarda 75 on it and has never been flown. You all are sure making me want to dust everything off and take all of them for a spin.

Ole jack passed in early 2012. I just built a new laser last winter and building another this winter. His plans are still avaliable along with fiberglass parts too. Great flying airplane.

Jack pass away Feb/Mar 2012. I went and visited him a couple of times after I returned from Afghanistan (Sept 2011) in the nursing home in Ardmore, OK. I live in Florida but my Guard Unit is in OK. I do miss him. I always enjoyed his company, although he could be cantankerous sometimes. I have one of his Stearmans and would like one of his Lasers. I would love to find one that he built or had something to do with besides just his plans.

The plans and cowl along with wheel pants can be bought from York enterprises. Just do a google search for their website and contact info. Devin York is who you want to speak to. They also build the full scale laser with home build kits ect. This is the 40% plans and parts that they supply.

For whatever reason I just decided to check and see if anyone had heard from Jack and I see that some others had that same thought recently. Very sorry to hear about Jack, I spent a lot of time talking to him on the phone 4-5 years ago and he was a great guy who taught me a lot about airplanes. Too bad I never actually got to meet him... I've got a set of plans hiding somewhere that I'm going to have to dig out sometime though.

Jack and I had email correspondence a few years back and as he was so informative I sent him an Australian calender for Christmas. He was blown away and told me that he always wanted to visit Aussie.
If I ever get around to building another of his Laser designs I will have his name displayed on the model as a mark of respect. Shame he has gone.
