A piped setup actually brings in a larger intake charge -In that respect it is akin to "supercharging".
the proof? the increased power . It takes more fuel to make more power.
The two stroke as we all know is a pumping device where the intake and exhaust are linked -not like a four cycle wher the various cycles are isolated (in most cases)
Tiny turbos can be done - but as you noted - very difficult to make efficient in the small sizes - the pipe simply extends the entire two stroke process - increasing extaction which improves induction

Nope, Dick already made my point for me.

As I've said elsewhere on this thread . .pick a 50cc engine, tune it, love it, fly it. 50cc engines are a nice little group of engines, where it's not very easy to make much more power than what it is designed for, without really getting into some technical stuff like full length pipes or external turbo/supercharging. With stock exhaust diverter style exhausts about every 50 on the market (from the DA, 3W, ZDZ to the weedie conversions like the BME. Taurus, FPE, Fox, or Brison) is going to make about the same amount of power .. Usually in the 7000-7500 rpm range with a Mejzlik 22-8 prop. Some will make a little more, some a little less, and some will swing a bigger prop a little better than others. Its just the way of things in that class of engines.

Now, you go upping the CC's a bit, like the BME55 and Evo/MVVS58 and things take off in the power department, but you are also easily increasing the engines displacement by some 10-15% and should see notable power increases by doing so.

So, between the DA and ZDZ it comes down to . . Customer service. . price. . availibility. . . warranty . . and quality of the product, and both companies are very good in those categories. Then figure out if you want to pipe it. . both engines will respond similarly to this modification with the proper setup, though I have not seen anyone pushing a piped DA50 yet, and the ZDZ has reams of numbers recorded about piped setups for it, and this seems to be the best setup for the little disk-valved single.

You can't go wrong with either one, IMO.

I self my 2 DA and never will buy one.

I'm amazed this thread is still going strong despite how long ago I started it. I bought a ZDZ 50NG with pitts silencer.

They are a great little engine and they will last a lifetime if you dont try to run them too light on the oil mix, follow what he manufacturer says and you have a great little engine.
