What happened ?????????

I have a Spektrum Powersafe 9110 receiver, bound to my JR9303.

I just finished my 3DHS Bigfoot. I had all my surfaces setup, with the flaps being neutral or even with the ailerons. When I powered up my plane the flaps did a quick movement up then back to neutral, the quick movement up bound against the surface breaking a bit of balsa, therefore loosening the hinge bin. What would make the Flaps make that quick short movement up then back to neutral and how do I prevent that.

Thanks
Gofly

Rebind, because you need to set your failsafe.

After it was all complete, you needed to perform a rebind. This will reset your failsafes. Without that the servo's can react that way. You may have inadvertently bound with the flaps in that position originally.

Ummm.....

You MIGHT want to hold on a minute before you power that thing up again.

You say the radio is a JR9303, is it an X9303 or an XP9303 with a module? If it's the X9303, are you using analog servos??? If so you will have problems with that radio setup doing exactly what you mention and rebinding will not fix the problem.

The problem is caused by the rx sending out a signal pulse in the 700 ms range (this is quite a ways below the normal bottom limit and analog servos don't like it) when it first starts up and prior to linking with the tx. Depending on which brand (Hitec seems to be most affected) and servo model it might be anything from a twitch, to a partial deflection to going all the way to the servo's max deflection. Horizon admitted there was an issue but no fix was ever offered. It was talked about and investigated by a number of users here on FG (try the search engine for specifics) when it first started happening. It's thought that it has something to do with the rx deciding on whether it will be running in 2048 resolution or cutting back to 1024 but no one is really sure. What is sure is that if this is the problem, switching to digital servos will eliminate the problem.

My 9303 would do that relentlessly with certain types of servos, back then in was the 645 and 5645 Hitecs that were real bastards at jumping. Also some JR's would get nasty with the 9303. Once I set up a choke servo in a plane where a wire did not quite work.....just like you, worked perfect. Went out the next day, fired it up and instantly burned out my choke servo

Upgraded my radio and never looked back since....

Well then a rebind should fix the issue.

Question to the OP? Are you using a "Y" harness on the flaps? I had a T-craft and mine did that as well untill I adjusted it out with the transmitter. I know you can do a re-bind, but I also remember that JR and Spektrum do not like "Y" harness in the system. Wish you well.

No Y harness, separate channels for each flap. I just rebound today, the flaps don't "twitch" but the rudder does now?

You'll be ok. Control surfaces will move when powered up, and a signal sent for them to move.
