I got a strange one here. A 3W157 that fouls out plugs in about a dozen flights. Using Pennzoil Air-Cooled @50 to 1. Thought it was the gas (Quick Trip) so changed that to Mobil and still the same problem.

The symptoms are very hard starting. Engine has a DA ignition, KS 1090 tuned pipes. Have changed carbs, reed blocks, and finally found out that by changing the plugs brings back the nice easy starting. Fly for 12 flights or so and hard starting resumes.

The plugs look perfect with a nice dark tan color. Engine has great compression and lots of power.

Once the engine gets going it runs great and never dies, but getting it started is the challenge.

Getting tired of putting plugs in this beast. Oh, no amount of needle chasing fixes it.

. Quit using the pennzoil, would be my suggestion, or gap your plugs to .012, imho

Kudos to the OP for letting the members of this site know about it.

No kudos to the business owners who seemed to have exhausted stock. Don't think this is what the OP intended.

NAPA's are a funny store. Three in my area all tell me that it is a good plug number, but they are unable to get them. My local Advanced Auto has them for about $6.00 each.
Local Honda motorcycle shop hooked me up the best.

Ralph, you say wider gap and Jack says narrower gap. How come that doesn't surprise me?

Hello Plane, Did you try the suggestions yet? If you did, then please report the results to us. If you want to run .025-.035 gap, then you may want to try a rcexl ignition from C&H Electronics. Did that on a 3W 150, .030 gaps, 200 more rpm.

I just called these guys. You won't get your order after a week anymore. They are back ordered and had to order 3000 from NGK in Japan. Expected maybe end of March or beginning of April. I already have a couple spares so I'm in no hurry. And they don't charge your card until they ship.

They went from shipping date of 2-6-09 to 3-2-09 to 3-31-09 on mine.

They're in a Honda box with a genuine NGK plug inside.
