Did'nt know you could fly at Fentress,I thought the Navy still used it as a practice runway for carrier landings. Is there a club there?

After reading all the crap ya`ll have to put up with at the clubs . I am glad to have my own space . Where all my buddies can get together and fly as we please . If you venture over to TFC and check out this tread ... The Felterschnatz Sideshow .... You will see a group of ppl who all have different styles of flying but we communicate well and have a great time when we all get together . We 3D with big Gassers , fly foam . And have some that just fly in circles and make low high speed passes . And we get along great .Communication is the Key .

I have a pretty nice club actually. I don't have to put up with much of anything. I get along with people, follow the rules (which are fair), and have a blast. The board is well represented with people of all flying styles. Nothing wacky happens, no crazy rules. Just common sense. We communicate like you said. Your private club sounds like a lot of fun. A guy in my area did the same thing but it got to be too much work for him and he closed it down. I think other clubs may not be as well run as mine. Sick egos can get going and make everyone miserable. My club doesn't let that happen. It's been around a while and been through all those growing pains. Our mission is to survive and to do that you gotta make it a pleasent place to hang out and have fun. It certainly is.

PS: Take a look at the 1st video in my signature. Our current club president did all the filming and production on it. It was his idea. Some of those harriers are pretty low.

Seems the FOG situation is nearly identical across this great nation.
Not all of the older members are FOG's though. Certainly not. Many of them are just plain cool to talk to and hang out with learning some things. Others seem very put off by new members, even the very proficient flying new/younger fliers.

They are the ones that complain of "unsafe" flying, but are seen regularly flying over the pits, out of bounds, hopping and skipping down the runway, careening out of control. Even seen a couple doing 60 sized ugly stick combat, but would FROWN on anyone else doing such a dastardly and unsafe thing.

true!
But if they care about the club, they must not piss away the new blood that comes out and is willing to participate in activities and also remain members.

If FOG's hold the line in their old ways thinking...the FNG's will go elsewhere and the club will die.

Try flying a helicopter! Some people really hate those. I fly all types of aircraft and have decided that, while I may not like certain types of flying, each member has a right to fly how they choose (Within the rules). I just choose who I fly with.

Problem is young guys just don't understand what wisdom and life experience is all about and never will until they become a FOG. The Chinese venerate their old, wonder why.
I try to understand the young guys thoughts and ideas. Most of their decisions are driven by testosterone. I kind of remember being that way some time ago. We don't like getting old and that is why we get pissed off so easy. I am proud to be a FOG, I earned it.

Keep in mind that you become a FOG by surviving being a FYG (foolish Young Guy).

And one should never confuse skill with judgment.
