Which Cessna ?

I fancy building a 40-45% high winger.......something different than a Cub or Decath. Which Cessna do you like the shape of most and why?

Cessn 182 Skylane.

I always thought the cowling hiding the Textron Lycoming IO-540 engine looked very stout and tough looking. A Cessna Skylane with a 3-blade prop looks awesome.

Re: Which Cessna ?

Nahh... the most elegant is the 206 Stationair Turbo.. and if you made the new version looks more elegant. I'm building the Wendell Hostler one which is 120" (about 26%) scale with panels lines, rivets, fowler flaps, inspection plates, strobe lights etc.

It would be awesome to see one of these on a 40% scale it would be huge.... I applaud you in this effort, we need some big well made scale airplanes. BY the way other suggestions about big scale airplanes which are easy to do:

1. Britten Norman Islander
2. Cessna Caravan
3. Dehaviland Twin Otter
4. Mooney (not easy to made but is a cool looking airplane)

That's easy, Cessna 195. Nice round cowl w/unusual taper. Different shaped wheel pants. No wing struts.

There's something cool about flying around in a plane that was manufactured the same year I was born! A 1952 Cessna 195 Businessliner...... Fine looking and a pretty good performer. I've flown one twice that had the wheel pants. I also flew one without pants that had the "crosswind landing gear" where the wheels would "drop and swivel" and you'd taxi sideways so you could see over the nose better. Takes a little getting used to!

Yes, 195's are cool, but I like the 170 - That's a plane I can imagine owning and being inside of myself, and they fly and work very well, a very successful design - the precursor to the legendary 172 - a blend of classic era design (with the rounded tail) and modern know-how.

Re: Which Cessna ?

EEEEK...I didn't know there where so many Cessnas made. Well so far I'm leaning towards the 185 or 182 for simplicity, don't wanna go too deep in scale looks or I'll never finish it and i want something that does more than round and round flying. The 182 does have a very nice profile though. The 195 is a problem as I cant get hold of 3 views to start with. I'm limited in the range that I can find on some series.....looked everywhere on google but with the same results.

This is all your fault Rob, if I hadn't helped draw out that dang silly Mono of yours I wouldn't never have thought of this ......my wife's gonna kill me.

Re: Which Cessna ?

Yes, Pete, I was going to say 180/185 but forgot (stuck in vintage mode when you mentioned ragwings). the 185 is the more desirable plane from a performance point of view, but I think there were more 180's made than 185's, so there might be more data available.
