That is a VERY substantial glider. I think it would be great in the Alps in a 50 mph wind. Look at how the wing stabs into the ground and the plane just kinda stands there for a second or two. That thing is built like a tank. A lighter wing would have just folded into an accordian.

The SAE Aero Design competition was very interesting. We only got 30 something lbs in the air. I think the team finished 10 out of 40. At least the plane flew straight and stayed together. Some of the others didn't fair so well. I didn't think a Magnum 61 could pull that much stuff into the air.

There were teams from all over. China, Canada, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Poland and schools all over the US. 69 teams in 3 different classes.

lol, I met my wife at Riddle. It was a different place back then. The guy to girl ratio was ridiculous.

When I catch up with alumni they always ask what happened to me. When I say 'I married a girl from Riddle' they always say; "Oh, 'Lucy' or 'the English one'.

Wouldn't presume to know that much about 'you', 'her' and your relationship, but I'll bet dollars to dimes the fact she is still undergrad and looking at at least another year of living on campus and working for the university to get by on tuition and you busting out on the internet;
