This is one of the coolest threads Ive come across yet. The Sabre was always one of my childhood faves. What a beautiful aircraft. Nice work guys!!

Re: Full scale F-86 rebuild thread

It'll have to wait a bit. I'm back in NZ/Sydney/Kona for a couple weeks. I spent several hours earlier this week prepping the canopy for paint.

On a really cool note, I talked with the widow of Walt Williams, the team leader. She put me in touch with the widow of John Ferrier, the pilot whose plane we are restoring this Sabre to look like. He was killed during a performance at Wright-Patt back in June 1958. For his actions he was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. She cried when I told her what we were doing.

Wow, I did not know there was that kind of history with this scheme. I was thinking about doing my current turbine Saber in this scheme but cant find many 3 views. Since the plane is only 50" wide and long with a Wren 44, I figure a brighter paint job would help it stand out on the 180 MPH passes. If you have any good pictures you are using to copy the scheme could you send them to me. I can PM you my email if you have them.

I'd be happy I provide you with as many pics as you like. In the mean time:

Here is the canopy during reassembly after paint.

This is a close up of the nose gear after reassembly. After 5 months up on jacks, the Sabre is back on its own legs again.

Left view of the nose gear with the gear door installed.

Aft left main view with gear doors and new brake stacks installed.

Left main close up.

Right main close up.

Right main inboard.
