Here is a pic of Flight System's next generation target tower, the A-4. See the Dart out on the l. wing?

awsome project, question. we race offshore powerboats and often need to remove the paint and zink cromate from the lower units. those are mfg from aluim as well. we used peelaway. they are using this on bridges and water tanks around the world. was that a thought befor the stripper you are using?

Re: Full scale F-86 rebuild thread

Here's some more pics for y'all:

Starting on the vertical stab. See the old Tracor Flight Systems lettering and logo poking through? Looks like they just rattle-canned over that area, it peeled up pretty quick.

Notice the South African flag?

Tail is pretty much done.

The elevators looked brand new when we got the paint off of them, thankfully no allodyne etching, that means polishing will be a LOT easier on them.

Tiny bubbles...

Making progress up the sides of the fuse.

We hope to have the fuse done in the next couple of days.

As far as the scheme goes, it looks like we've settled on one, I'm gonna go ahead had keep it under my hat until it's official...and done. It will be military,it will be sweet, and it involves a LOT of polishing.

Later!

Hey..... Is there someone, possibly in the Missoula area with a Mig-21? Saw one screaming down over the Bitteroot Valley some years back.

Yeah, there used to be. I believe it was out of MSO or HLN. I'm pretty sure it's gone now. The guy that flew it was a real...um, peach.

Re: Full scale F-86 rebuild thread

Alright guys, it's been a while since I've posted any new pics. My apologies...my day job has been interfering...5 days in Cabo; recovering from Cabo; you know how it goes...

Anyways, we've been working hard on the -86 as well as the T-bird. We had to install an overhauled fuselage tank fuel pump, it was a real bugger. So far so good, we've got three flights on it now, and everything is working as it should, and no leaks.

We've finished stripping the skin of the F-86, and are just finishing stripping the wheel wells and speed brakes. Here are a few pics:

Here are what the speed brakes used to look like:

Here is what they look like after a little work:

Here is where the smoke tank is going to go:

Here is a little hint of where we are going with the new scheme:

The polishing is going well, a little faster than we anticipated, actually.

I'm pretty stoked, I get to fire up one of the F-100's this weekend and do a taxi run/engine run-up!

That F-86 is going to be absoutley gorgeous when it is done. I have always been a big fan of the polished finish look. I know it is a lot of work, but it is very rewarding when all done. Keep up the good work, and keep posting pics when you have time. I know you are keeping pretty busy with all you have going on.
