Re: Red Lion Gas Engine
I don't know, but when I opened the box for my new EG MX2, it had a huge sheet of Red Lion decals. Since I am running an OS GT-55 I do not think I will be using them.

Re: Red Lion Gas Engine
I was chatting with a friend last night that was asking me if I had heard of this engine before. I guess one of the guys in his club bought one and it is running very well with good power. He seemed to be impressed with it. Didn't give any details other than that.... I have never seen one in person yet. Time will tell if they are any good, they are rather new in the game yet.

Re: Red Lion Gas Engine
When you do get around to doing the RPM's don't just rely on the WOT number
Ideally do a power curve on a smal engine dyno (if you can find one available) or at least post the numbers on different throttle settings Say 1/4 of full throttle travel 1/3 of full throttle travel 1/2 of full throttle travel 2/3 of full throttle travel 3/4 of full throttle travel With the measurements being based on the throttle angle. Then perhaps try it with a couple of different props. You may be surprised at just what rolls out of that. Top RPM's is all very nice but if the torque curve in the area where most people actually fly is low - it is not so good. This is why so many of the "top end" engines do not worry about advertising "Top Speed RPM" but instead offer you advice on what RPM to prop the engine to run at. And before it is commented on - I have nothing to do with these engines and am highly unlikely to ever have anything to do with them - It just annoys me when "allegedly" knowledgeable people spout about "Top RPM's" being a true measure of an engines performance. |

Although these engine we use are considered small compared to full scale car engines, I relate to them for performance goals. HP to RPM is keeping the Airplane going at a consistant speed realitive to the RPM numbers. The higher the RPM, The faster the airplane will go to a point. We "Prop" the engines realitive to what we need them to do as one would do with a car and "Gear" for what they need on the track. If you want to Drag race, you put a high Gear ratio Ie.. 3:90's, 4:11's, 4:56's. With that said, We arent nessesarly looking for speed. We are looking for overall Torque in the mid to top end of the throttle curve. So with HP keeping the plane going, Torque gets it there and pulls the airplane... If someone put two quality engines in front of me and said Engine A spins a 23*8 at 7000rpm and Engine B spins the same prop at 6750 put has more grunt from low speed, i would take Engine B simply because its more Torquey and will get you out of a low speed stall (Hover, Harrier) and will also pull the airplane on uplines with authority and less throttle. With all that nonsense I said above.. The key is to find one that has a happy medium. Good HP for spinning the prop, but a good amount of TQ to get it there. These are just my .02c |

I just flew my OMP EXTRA with the Red Lion and the Crankshaft seemed to have a little slop in it. Will get in touch with OMP to see if they can get me the Tolerances. Ran at factory settings for 5 minutes and it was Hot 198-202. I would wait to hear more about the engine before Buying.

Red Lion 58cc
Hey guys here is the one I tested for OMP, I went thru the engine and was very pleased with the quality the intake and exhuast ports were very clean. I still have the engine and runs great, I have it on the version 1 OMP YAK55, and pulls it around with no issues.
