There has been some new stuff that is byproduct of the "Skunk Works" here lately that is worth sharing.

Rob Whalen (RCpilot82) here on FG has designed some really cool servo boxes that drop into foam core wings or conventional built up wings which I needed for a project I've been working on. They allow the servo's to lay flat in the wing, stabs, or fuse with just the control arm exposed.

Rob's web site is: http://kustomaerodesign.weebly.com/ if you would want to have some made. (They would be nice to have around when you need them!)

Here's a few pics of the prototype. The design interlocks and weigh 1 oz. each.

I'll post a few more pics when I install them.

Thanks Rob!!

Any size Tony. I think that's a 1.5" in the pic. A 1" would put the linkage at or near below the surface. I had a CompArf setup we were using as baseline. It had a 1.5" with 3D throws.

Maybe Rob knows exactly what arm is used in that picture. Hey Rob!?

Yup, That one in the pic is a 1.5" You could use a 1.25 but obviously the throws would be less.

The one in the top row on the right is different than rest, what are O shaped pieces used for?

Those go onto the ribs Tony to act as doublers. Those boxes also have the tabs beyond the box for a 3/8ths stick to mount them. I think anyhow? Maybe the rocket scientist can verify this!! Lol...

They are not for "Ohio State". I can assure you that! btw...

That one is for mounting in traditional built up wood wings. you place 3/8" sq. hardwood pieces between the wing ribs and then used the "o" shaped pieces as doublers to add strength. you can then slide the servo box between the ribs to locate it where you want it and epoxy it in place. The other boxes are for mounting into foam core wings so they do not require the 3/8 sq pieces or doublers. just glue them in with gorilla glue. I also made templates for cutting the opening in the foam cores.

One more thing to note: The foam core servo box is lightened the same as the built up servo box. Those pics are of the first one I cut to prove out.

Hope that made sense, lol
