Timble... I run Futaba temp sensors and the pressure that the little sensor is against the cylinder is crucial. I can vary the temps by 30deg C just by pushing them tighter against the cylinder wall. IMHO, the only way to get accurate results is to glue the sensors on and it too must be done properly.

Funny what telemetry does to us... We become so fixated on numbers that have so many variables in the absolute value and then argue about it. I guess it all depends what we want to get out of our telemetry. I use it to warn me of a change vs what I'm used to seeing, not the absolute value.

Example - my GP123 runs around 275-325F. If I saw it climb to 375F, I'd land and check it over to perhaps save a motor or my plane. The person flying beside me may see a norm of 200-225. I'd suggest that they set an alarm for 275 then.

This is a shot of my telemetry screen after landing and taxiing back. Although not a GP engine . Temperature and telementary is temperature and telemetry......
Did 6 flights late this afternoon. Every flight the engine climbed above 300 degrees F during long bouts of
slow high alpha and hovering.
Then an extended full throttle up line . Never a sign of any heat fade. A down line and a couple easy laps blipping the throttle. Engine temps would quickly drop back down into the 260 ' s.
My temp sensors are on the back side of the cylinder Head. Second fin from the top.
I only ever use temperature telemetry while first running and breaking in a new engine. Just to know if temps are within reason and if there is proper air flow.
After that. Ipull it out and it goes into the next plane.

I just use the numbers as a starting point and a base line. After that, I don't use it a all.

Telemetry has a place. Good info. But telemetry can suck the fun out of flying if you dwell on it.

Thanks Tbrum and bdegan. Your numbers tie in my what I see on my screen during similar manoeuvres I don't have any heat fade either. I will still add some baffles to better direct air over the engine and retain the temp sensor for a while longer. The sensor by the way is mounted hard against the cylinder wall between fins 2 and 3. It is silicone glued in place using high temp silicone

Holding the sensor in place with hi temp silicon can also change readings.
If any silicon got in between the sensor and cylinder Head. Your temp readings will be off.
Temp sensors readings need to be taken lightly. The are far from perfect

The sensor wire is clear of silicone. Futaba's instructions are very clear on how to mount the sensor.
The areas to be glued are clearly explained

Sure, here! Random pics, most static though.. soon 3years old airframe with bumps-n-scratches, we`ve been through a lot together hehe.. :-)

The GP123 on KS1060 is more than enough power on the airframe, though need to work out some CG issues before next flights!
