It just occurred to me that dual receivers will not work with the new 2.4 systems!!
So what will the aficionados of dual RX setups do? Not fly 2.4?? What is interesting is the logical corner you get backed into here. These are brand new systems with no track record of performance in giant scale planes. We have no idea how the RX's will hold up over time, how power demands effect them and so on. In other words, ALL the reasons that people use dual RX's are amplified with these new radios. BUT you cannot use the dual RX set up to calm your mind!! So what to do?? About the only thing you know for sure is that the crystal cannot vibrate out Now PLEASE do not go off on a tangent here. I think the 2.4 systems are the coolest thing since sliced waffles or frozen bread, but it does raise an interesting question or two regarding some of our most heartfelt ideas. One question, does anyone know what happens if one of the two RXs on the DX-7 dies?? Is this in fact a redundant RX set up, or if one dies the system dies.??

Regarding the 2.4GHz DX-7, here is a post from Mike McConville. At the end he states that you can use 2 receivers:
" 1. aileron r 2. elevator r 3. throttle 4. monster rudder (seiko) or ganged by matchbox or Hitec tuned plugged into a Power expander 5. aux/smoke/kill 6. aileron L 7. elevator L I use one receiver (the DSM aircraft rx actually are 2 rx in one case) and plug it in just like I do the single JR rx. Two batteries and 2 switches. Plug one into the battery port on the rx and one into an open aux channel. I used GEAR. If I were using that channel for smoke etc, then just use a Y-Harness in the rx port, the power intop one and the smoke pump into the other. If you want to use 2 x AR700 rx, its as simple as using 2 x PCM rx. Just bind both rx to the same tx/model and your good to go." |

Well there you go. I did not get that you can bind two receivers to the same TX. Answers that question. I do know that the pending XPS system CANNOT work with two receivers, so at some point it may be question worth asking.

As BDS said, you just have to bind both recievers at the same time, and your good to go. No issues if you feel it is necessary to run two RXs.

I'm a two receiver believer! I have flown a few different setup's where the second receiver saved me. Either a xtal falling out, battery lead coming unplugged, or receiver totally shutting down. Everything in my fleet gets two receivers if its 35% or bigger.

I am sorry, but if you are losing planes due to the crystal falling out or feel the need to tape them in, then you have bigger issues to deal with. I would say that this is a symptom of poor installation since properly installed RX should never see enough vibration to make a crystal fall out.
Battery problems, again two batteries into a single RX is actually better than one each into two RXs. But again, that is not a RX problem. The one any only time that I will grant that a second RX saves the day is all out RX failure. Everything else is preventable by other means. But RX failure is rare, and likely no more common than TX failure. Which is the OTHER single point failure mode that nobody ever talks about, yet still happens. But to stay on tpoic, it is nice to know that the Spektrum radio will allow a dual RX set up for those that feel the need.

http://www.futaba-rc.com/team/index.html Fourth photo down. I'm in the middle with my Sharon Pro in Team colors. This is a picture of $12K worth of molded gliding heaven!! Left to right are Aaron Vlades (US F3B Team Member), Darwin Barrie, me, Edgar Vera, and John Erickson. Darwin does IMAC as well and writes the soaring column in Model Aviation. Everyone but John is flying a Sharon Pro 3.7. Erickson is flying an Icon.

Well, I do think that xtals should not fall out. But iv seen it happen on very nice installations. I have also seen a xtal fail, new one put in and everything works perfect. I love the two receiver method and it will be very hard for me to ever switch over to one receiver.

Well at least with the 2.4 rigs we don't have to worry about crystal either falling out or failing. And the DX-7 is already a dual RX, two of them is a Quad - hog heaven for those predisposed in that direction!!

I agree, they shouldnt fall out... but they do. I always tape mine in, 100% of the time. Unfortunately, in the instance I referenced above, it wasnt my airplane. Nothing like spinning in from 300 feet...
