Dear Sir,
I have recently bought an electric profile yak to get my feet wet in 3D. This plane is around 15oz ready to fly. I am using an XP 9303 radio. I am using a 6 channel electron receiver with 3 HS-55 servos. Here is the work flow up to where I began to have problems: 1. I made sure to first reset the model in the transmitter so I would start with a clean slate. 2. I picked the flaperon “Wing”option (since I am using 2 aileron servos) 3. I set-up “Device Select” for triple rates and one switch. 4. I used Subtrim to make very minor adjustments to get all surfaces centered. I tried my very best to get all linkages mechanically adjusted to center the surfaces before I touched the “Subtrim” option on my radio. 5. Used the ATV function to make sure all surfaces traveled the same amount (up, down, left, right). 6. The next thing I did was set-up the dual rates. This is where I am having the problem. I set the aileron throws at a 35% low rate setting first. I then checked the travel to make sure it was the same for left aileron and right aileron. The travel for these surfaces are not the same. They seem to be off by a good 3/8”. I then checked the throws for all the other surfaces in low rates and they do not equal either. What really confuses me is that the control surfaces on high rates are equal all the way around since I was able to control that with the ATV function earlier. I am not sure what steps I need to take so all my control surfaces travel the equal amount for low and mid rates. I am assuming my control surface, control horn, and pushrod geometry is all wrong but I am not sure. I never really read up on proper geometry and how this affects the control surfaces. I tried going to a local hobby shop to get answers, but I just get a “You’re thinking about it to much, just go fly” response. I know that this profile yak is not a precision plane, but I would just like to set this plane up properly like the pros do. That way I will have some experience under my belt when I finally decide to buy a gasser. I hope you understand my situation. I really love this hobby and would like to learn as much as I can from the pros. Thanks in advance for all your help, Jose J. Rodriguez P.S. If you need pictures, I am more than willing to send some so you can see what I am dealing with. |
