Default AM 37.5% yak 54 rudder servo tray.

I have no idea on what to do for the rudder tray.... The holes that came w/ the plane for the rudder servos are HUGE. I have no idea why someone would use 3 JUMBO sized servos to gang up for the rudder...????....????.... So i guess that i have to buy a servo tray for the rudder. BUT the room is a problem. If i could get away w/ 2 Hitec 5955 servos for the rudder than it would fit perfectly, but i want to use 3 hitec 5955's because of its massive rudder and its going to be my 3D plane. So if i put a 3 bay servo tray in it, i dont think i will have enough room to bolt down the rudder tray on one of the sides where the bellcrank goes.... Does anyone have any pics of the newer version of the AM 37.5% yak 54 rudder trays w/ the servos already in them? The older versions have only an option to mount a seiko in it, or gang 2 jumbo servos parallel together. On the newer version you have a choice of doing that or ganging up 3 standard size servos together.... I have room for the 3 servos but i dont think i have room for mounting the tray down...Here are pics of what i mean.....
Thanks for help!

What I would do Tony is make a mounting plate for the 3-servo tray that you want to use, extending the length slightly if you have to to accomodate the length. Then cut the existing tray to the the servos drop in and the new tray sits on top of the old one. No reason to make it the entire width of the fuse, that would be just extra weight. But make sure you have a solid 1/4" or so to glue down to the existing tray. I made a 1/4" thick mounting plate for my seiko so that i could mount it, but also to disperse the load across more of the hollowed out plate to increase strength with such a massive servo.

All you have to do is cut some small pieces of ply and shrink up the hole just a little bit. Cmon man put some building skills to the test You dont need a rudder tray. Also you will need at least 3 servos for the rudder.

Garrett - I was thinking about that, but i was not sure if that would be a good way or not to do it. I might just do that then...

I'm with Adrian on this one. The Seiko is easy to install and has gobs of power for this plane. At $189 it is way cheaper and simpler than the other options. there are 4 or 5 of these up our way and all are using the Seiko with great success. Craig

You, can go a couple of ways on this, if you like to close the holes a bit, you can do as Garrett suggested, very easy, or you could purchase a three servo tray form airwild, and you'll have a jam-up setup.. and yes three servos are required to do killer 3d! This is a great flying Yak , .. extremely light, and very responsive.Equipe it right, and you'll have a huge smile. One last thought, she's a floater.
Merry Christmas to all!

I agree with some of the others... great flying Yak. I have two of the 37.5% Yaks, both fly great. Very light for their size.

I used a Seiko on the rudder. Extreme amounts of throw and torque. Simple and easy to install.

TONY GO WITH THE SEIKO WORKS GREAT A TON OF POWER ON ITS OWN LITHIUM BATTERY ALMOST 1800 OZ OF TORQUE AND MAN IS IT FAST ON ITS OWN BATTERY. I JUST FIGUIRED OUT WHERE TO MOUNT THE SEIKO MADE A TRAY OUT OF 1/4 INCH PLY MOUNTED IT IN THE TRAY THEN MADE THE CUTOUT ON THE SERVO DECK FLOOR IN THE PLANE DROPPED THE TRAY IN WITH THE SERVO AND SCREWED AND GLUED IT TO THE EXISTING PLY ALLREADY THERE HASNT BUDGED A BIT. WORKS GREAT SIMPLE AND LESS EXPENSIVE THEN THE 3 SERVO ROUTE AND SETUP IS A BREEZE NO SERVOS FIGHTING EACH OTHER AND NO EXCESSIVE LINKAGES TO DEAL WITH

hmmm. Now i'm thinking about the seiko again... From what you guys are saying, it sounds a LOT easier. I already bought 3 hitec 5955's for the rudder, but i guess i could keep them as spares and go w/ the seiko, or just throw in the tray. But if i use the seiko, i will have a LOT more room in the plane to install my power expander, turbo reg, reciver, etc.......
Thanks!
