Default Header length matching trick

Guys,

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but here goes. I just spent way too long trying to accurately measure the length of my curved and offset MTW flex header so I could whack it down to the length of my stock Greve header (9.75). Measuring header length is a real pain if you are dealing with curves and offsets. So, after lots of trial and error I finally had what I thought was the right point to cut the MTW. So I chopped it off. I still had a nagging feeling that it wasn't the same length as the Greve.

After some headscratching I took advantage of simple geometry and filled the MTW header with water. I poured the water into the Greve header. Voila! The volume was equal so I measured correctly.

Now if I had done that to start with I would have been able to accurately match the length of the MTW to the Greve stock header by filling the Greve header, dumping it into the MTW and measuring the distance between the water and the edge of the header. Would have saved me some time and taken the guess work out of it.

Hope someone can benefit from this if they ever need to match header lengths.
