You are down to 1.28% but the surprising thing is that people that do both is still around 2/3. Perhaps FG members are special bunch compared to people at local clubs.

This thread is incorrectly titled, it should be "Closet Plank Flyers"

I fly Helis primarily and planks as a way to relax. After all "To fly is heavenly, To Hover (with full directional control) is divine!

Do they still make planks? I mean really>? Just kidding, I used to be hard into gas planes, but, since I got the heli bug, I never looked back. With electric and ease of transport, its a whole new hobby. Plus there is so much to learn, I was getting kinda bored of the planes. haulin the trailer was the pits everytime to fly, not the end of the world, but with a heli, unfold the blades, fuel, fly. enjoy!

I have always flown planes, since about '73. However, I got into helicopters in '76 for a while. Fixed pitch, no gyros, no computer radios. Got pretty good at it.

Fast forward to last year, I bought a Blade CP, banged it up and got a Honey Bee CP2 short kit (no radio). Got to where I could loop and roll and even fly inverted a bit. I would not mind moving up to a TREX or similar, but don't really have the time or money since my son got into the hobby.

My wife who accompanied us most of the time to the field, never commented on plane flying. However, 3-4months into heli flying, she said "I did not notice before but the planes are so slow". That is what she said and she did not mean forward speed.

I think the initial topic was mislabeled. It drew in more heli crowd than norm causing shift in statistic. It is finally below 60% and if more participated, I think it will go where I anticipated.

I dunno about closet heli pilots, I was more like a closet airplane pilot. I've been flying heli's for about 7 years and only in the last two years did I really start flying airplanes....

It kinda worked out good, cuz I was no stranger to using that left stick

I just bought a TRex 450SE, 401, HS-65s, S9650, Hyperion Blades, DX7, etc... a couple friends gave me some stick time and I got hooked!

I flew Heli's for a couple years (Raptor 50), then switched back to planes and started flying IMAC... looks like I've come full circle!

Currently have:
41% Extra
35% Panzl
35% Extra
Mojo .40
Assorted Foamies
Trex450SE!!!!!!!!!!

Look forward to taking the TRex with me on the road!!! Not a PITA like the GS planes to carry around!
