Carden 35% rudder servo

I have a built 35% carden extra with a single hitec 5735 on a pull-pull for the rudder.

I'm using a SWB horn on the rudder.

I'am intrested in retro fitting a single hitec 5955 in the tail.

You guys that are putting your rudder servos in the tail what length servo arms are you using? How much rudder movement are you getting?

The plane is set up for IMAC style flying not 3d.

I wouldn't recommend using only one servo for the rudder in the back.. If it was pull-pull fine.. But I think using one servo in the tail to push and pull puts a lot of stress on it. I would go with dual servos (push-pull) or pull-pull with the single one...

That being said, you could use 1'' arms if you want IMAC rates, or 1-1/4''

I agree with this. I was faced with the same decision and went with the pull-pull. It would have been nice in my case to get more weight in the tail but I really think a one servo push pull on a large rudder like this would be too much.

a single 5955 on push-pull is fine. It's a much simpler setup...more precise as well. As far as more stress...doesn't matter whether the rudder is pulling or pushing on the arm....torque is torque regardless of which direction it's moving.
The 5955 is a rock-solid servo...I've got some with well over 100 flights of single-servo ail. use that aren't showing a bit of wear...won't hesitate to use them in a new airframe.

I think I'm going to try it with the one servo,the set up will be easy.

As best as I calculate with a 1.5" arm and 60 deg. of servo travel I should get 45 deg. of rudder with the 4" swb horn and still maintain the mechanical advantage at the servo. 260oz x 1.33 = 345oz of torque, should be enough for IMAC. By doing this I can toss the heavy 5.1oz 5735 plus the tray, and remove the 2 ozs of lead in the tail and have a much tighter set up.

I have used a single 5955 in the tail via pull/pull with good success, mounted on the bottom of the fuse right in front of the tail gear. It doesnt work with every airframe, but worth a look. I have also used one on push/pull on the side as well.
