ALLLLLLLLLLLLLRRRRRRRRIIIGGHHTYYYYY THEN...
Fellas ... believe it or not... this plane is not half bad. I bet $5 it was made in the same factory that made the old EBAY specials the - KMP Edge, Yak and Extra. The construction looks a lot like my KMP plane. 1) This plane is FREAKING HUGE... I MEAN BIG.... as in ... it DWARFS my DALTON, and EVEN my PANZL looks a bit tame next to it.... 107" wing span is conservative. The wings are HUGE... I am really interested to see how this is a 35% plane. 2) It seems VERY light and the construction reflects this. I am going to add a few 1/4" braces along the hatch... its practically nothing. But still pretty solidly built. Its all laser cut panels that fit together in a giant puzzle. Sheeted turtle deck, and built up wings... over all I'd rate it right there with most of the available arf's, and to be honest a little better than a few of the Big Name companies. (In some ways) Its not OMG this is the best plane I have ever seen good... but its way better than I expected for the money. 3) The covering is actually nice. (except for the green color... WHICH IS ON TOP OF THE RED!! And will be removed - WHOO HOO SEE YA!!) There is not one wrinkle on the entire plane! I'm not sure what brand of covering it is though... it may actually be ora-cover. 4) The hardware looks to be the same that KMP included with their planes an is for the most part usable (even a *** instruction manual comes with the plane.. ha ha but the plane is different in quite a few areas) 5) From initial eyeballing everything looks to be pretty damn straight.. stabs are in visual line with the wing, and both tubes line up as well... 6) The main wing tube is very light aluminum.... it seems strong... but its soooooo light, I may get a CF tube for it just to be safe. 7) The glue joints are all covered. Its a milky clear glue... and I can't really tell if its hot melt... but its pretty darn strong. I will be going over the seams with some titebond here and there (as I did on my 50+ flight and still mint KMP edge). Over all for the money I spent I'm very happy with the plane. My friend is no longer getting this... I will be keeping it for my "lets learn this trick" plane. Ok... here's a slew of pictures from box to fitting it together...

Thanks for the honest look at this.
If I could get one ARC that would be nice. Or heck have them make a 40%er

OK.. Image one shows what happens when Charley Yeng at the factory smokes a ton of china White and picks a color to match red and blue.
This HAS to go... so even if I have to recover the whole top of the wing.... SEE YA. So I went at it with a heat gun and my fingernail. it actually came off pretty cleanly... All but one strip... this one strip left residue... Anyone have a good residue removal system from covering?!?!

Thanks for the pics sleepy. Sounds like a great airframe for new maneuvers. Any chance of a pic of the hardware out of its bags?

Since your stripping some of the covering away, I feel it's ok to say this now. That is one of the ugliest covering schemes I've ever seen in my life.

I agree whole heartedly ... I may (if I finish the Dalton first) try to re cover it.

Another thing, I see they are offering a 50cc yak now. It's exactley the same thing as nitroplanes is offering so I'd say it's safe to say that these are all built at the same place. As you know, I've got a P-51 from them and agree that the construction is very nice, especially for the price. Unfortunatley the covering is some pretty cheap stuff and like you said the glue joints need to be checked over because they use that hot glue looking stuff.
I think if you recover that thing and check over the construction you'll have a nice airplane in the end. Sleepy rules and would rock a\color scheme!! He is my hero! Last edited by SleepyC; 01-06-2007 at 10:03 PM. |
