Default Any recommendations on first Giant Scale?

Hello all, I'm in the market for a nice 27%-30% gas plane that will be IMAC capable and 3d. I'm leaning toward the percision flying more than 3d, but I would love to have the "best of both worlds." Since this will be my first giant plane, I want to be sure to get something I'm going to be happy with. I like the Edge 540's 260's. I've been scouting out the Aeroworks Edge and Extra 300 as well has some WildHare offerings.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tone

An Aero-Works Extra 260 or any of the 30% Yak 54's.

I personally think the Wild Hare Extra 300 ( New version ) is the best value going in the 50cc class. In IMAC, mid wings are gaining popularity again. Most manufacturers have been going with the 260 but the larger 300 canopy should result in a better flying airplane. The Edge is not quite as popular due to stall/snap charicteristics. Yaks fly well too but IMO extras are just better looking.

I was looking at the Wildhare offerings and they have really nice planes. I also love the look of the aero-works yak. The rep at aero-works told me he recommends the 260 over the yak due to increased stability. To quote him exactly, "the yak is more of a pilots plane", it tracks well, but not as good as the edge".

Comp-Arf 2.6M Extra with DA 100. Awesome combination.

Slightly off subject but I would recommend going with the largest airframe possible, up to 40%. Bigger is always better. After that if you are even thanking of having two planes flying at once then choose between IMAC or 3D. A comprise will always be a comprise, even if the planes are the same the setup will not be. If you can have only one plane flying at a time then try to get the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

Aero-Works. Very well built, easy to build, good service, and great flying models. Either the YAK or the Extra whichever you like the looks of best. AeroWorks is a little ahead of the pack in making giant scale easy for a first large plane. Most will tell you a 50CC is too small for IMAC. A 100cc is a more competative size. The 75CC may be the best choice for a first IMAC plane. AeroWorks has the perfect plane for any of the three bears

Hanger 9 27% Cap 232G with a DA50 if built right you can keep it around 15.5Lbs. THE BEST THING IS IT DOENT HAVE THE USUAL CAP TENDENCIES!!!! (SNAPPING) IT is extremely stable in hairriers and elevators and it floats.

Based on your picture.... :-), and considering I flew your plane the other weekend... that's not a bad choice at all. Nothing but good things about WH planes.....

The Aero-works planes are very nice, and everyone I talked to agrees on their quality. I haven't seen many 75cc planes at the field, only 50cc and 100cc. I'll look further into the 75cc as well.

Thanks to all for such great information and advice. My friend found me a great deal on a used Wild Hare Extra 300 Special 50CC; with a 3w50i, etc... It needed just a little TLC, but it's appears to be a great starter gas plane. I'm definitely considering moving up to the 75cc to 100cc size in the near future (if I can get the wife to sign off..) She said no more helicopters... so I take that as more planes.. LOL......

FWIW, I flew an Aeroworks 100cc 260 yesterday and it was one of, if not the best flying plane I have flown. Rock solid stable and super smooth. No wing rock in upright or inverted harriers, very confidence inspiring. I didn't want the timer to go off! I also flew an Aeroworks Yak (although smaller) and the Extra blew it away.

Edit, Saw you chose the WH Extra Special. I had one of those as a first gasser. It is a great flyer also. A little wing rock in harriers but tracked like an arrow.
