I might do that once I build the 1/4 scale one. I am going to get the plans copied so I'm might get one set enlarged also.

Your going to love this model, they have such nice manners especially when there just that bit bigger. I'd be only to happy to hang it behind my 40% Pawnee or sga 1-30 pictured above (yes it has a tow hook). When you want your kit cut get onto Brownie up in NSW he does nice work and is very reasonably priced. Let me know if you need some contact details for him.

cheers Rossco.

Seriously? Have never had this problem in hundreds of tows. The tug and sailplane have no idea which way the wind is blowing, only the track over the ground will change.

Have a look on Radio Carbon Art The Best of Scale Soaring.
The glider guider explaning to the new pilot how to keep the slack out of the line with the brakes.
There was no slack in the line into wind.
I expect there are lots of variables like wind speed, tow line material, glider type, tug type, power of the tug, etc.
All our composit sailplanes can pass our tug once the tug comes of power.
The Minimoa and the Habash dont.
Any one else have the problem.

Hey lazza,

Is the cessna ready to fly again this weekend? Lets get it sorted so we can do some towing and get you some quality air time on those new gliders.

Do you have any more info on the Woodstock? It looks similar to a BJ1 Duster. Also, since this mostly a sailplane thread, does anyone know where I can get a model/kit of a Standard Cirrus?

I believe the woodstock was the next homebuilt after the duster, both where designed in california.

I have the video.

The glass ships accelerate much faster than the tug usually can, so line slack is usually introduced when the sailplane (or sometimes towplane) has gotten out of position in some manner. In this case if the sailplane pilot is quick on his feet he can use some brake to maintain line tension.

I've had line slack occur in turns in all directions, also when not turning, heading both up and downwind. Turning downwind can sometimes present a different visual picture due to ground track, I've seen this contribute to unecessary corrections by the pilot, resulting in getting out of position of introducing slack.

Had a good day aero towing today. Although there was not much lift around and some passing showers we had a ball anyway. 7 tows in total shared over 3 gliders. Still having drama's with the 3W 75TS breaking header pipes, I think we may have to revise the canister mounting or switch to a pitts muffler. Hope to have it fixed up soon so we can get some quality airtime.

Not such a good day aero towing today. We took the big cessna out for it's maiden towing session, and we had massive teething problems. Went to take the tug for a spin first up to check the CG after it was way nose heavy on the maiden flight a few weeks back, and the motor refused to start. About 30min later we got it running. Put it in the air and it feels very tail heavy. Land and remove some tail weight, and try again. Start up and on of the mufflers comes loose. Cowl off, muffler retorqued, try again. Get into the air still feels tail heavy, setup for landing and the motor stops. Land safely, remove more weight and try again. Motor wont transition or idle now. Spend another 20min tunning the damn thing, and try again. Motor running well and plane feels ok, land and setup for a tow.

Start up the cessna and walk back to the glider, about to launch when we double check all controls and the gliders right wing is working intermittently. Swear lots, pack up and go home.

I guess everyone has one of the days every now and then. At least all models came home safe.
