I used to tow my 4m ASW 28 behind a pegasus. Talk about pulling vertical, I used to have to tell the tow guy to slow down all the time. He would just fly with the Left stick pinned to the top of the transmitter, I thought I was going to fold my wings a couple of times.

Or what about the new Ag-wagon/husky/Cessna 188 what ever you guys like to call it with a DA-50 in it...if so where would you put the tow line? on top or underneath? I would imagine the towline on top would create a nose up problem, being so far away from the center line of the wing?

Not sure what model you are talking about, however for that style you should use a yoke type tow line. The attachment points would be at the trailing edge of the wing and in the middle of the fuse sides (one each side). The yoke needs to be long enough to run over the top of the horizontal stab and clear the rudder befor joining the main tow line.

It has been very interesting reading about your glider tug tales, here.
I have a 1/3 Super Cub 3w106 powered that I want to tow with. I have a setup that will work... But, I am very interested in BANNER TOWING. Anyone have a compendium thread on that??? |

I have not seen any tow plane use a yoke to connect the towline yet. We always just attach the towline to the top of the tow plane as close to the CG as possible. If we have a choice at the start we always place the towline on the side of the fin that will be outside for the first turn. Normally the sailplane is above the towplane so the towline does not touch any flight surfaces while under tow. The 12 foot Telemaster that Andy flew in the post above has a Fuji IMAC 86cc twin and weighs about 30 pounds with fuel. I also have a Lanier Husky with a ZDZ 40 RVL (106 inches and 18 pounds). The Husky requires a little down elevator during tow because the tow release is 4 inches behind the CG. The Telemaster did not even notice the Flair 1/4 scale Ka8B glider (12 foot 10 pounds) was flying behind it. Both towplanes made 1000 feet with only one turn towing the Ka8B. I have also had many tows behind a GP Giant Aeromaster with G-62 power. The towline was attached at the back of the canopy on top the turtle deck.

I love flying it, landing it is another matter! I think we have that under control now though.
I'm following the Ventus thread on RCU, its a darn good looking sailplane for the price.
