Default Raptor .30, good timing

Just built my first nitro heli, a Raptor .30 v1. So this is good timing for the site to launch

I got such a good deal on a v1 with motor i had to give it a shot, and hopefully keep it up till im ready for a .50.

I have some T-rex experience, and have hovered inverted briefly a few times so i think i should be ok with the Raptor.

Going to break in the TT .36 that came with it tonight, and maiden tomarrow if all goes well.

Welcome aboard.
The 30 V1 will serve your needs fine for now.
There are some parts that can be upgraded to V2 when they need to be replaced.
If you can fly a tRex inverted then you will find the Rappy very easy to fly, the bigger they are the easier they fly.

The only issue you may run into is that Not all V1 parts are still readily available. there still around but you may have to hunt a little.

I would do the break-in with the engine in the heli and flying.

As you have a need to replace parts on the v1, you can simply replace them with v2 parts 99% of the time.

I agree. Durring the first few hover test flights you will only be running half throttle or less. No need to put the engine on a test stand with a prop, just fly her easy for the first gallor or so! (No screamin idle-up)

This is only the start of your addiction. When you get comfy with your raptor you will suddenly have the urge to have another one...and another, and another, and so on!

Thanks for the support.

Got it maidened. Did a few hovers and so forth then after the 2nd full tank i started getting the "WHOOF"

Flipped the head over per the advice of others and the WHOOF is gone, but now im chasing glitching problems.... only few metal to metal spots so im checking them all now. Tailbooms, Remote glow, and i don't really see any other metal to metal that could vibrate and cause glitching.....

Any other obvious areas to check for metal to metal vibes?

Will go PCM in a couple weeks when i can afford it

Is it just the tail kicking on you? That could be caused by somthing as simple as a motor running too rich.

Whoof is typicly cause by having the blades too loose, they need to be snug enough to hold the heli on its side and shake it a litte with out the blades folding down, if you shake is a bit harder, they should then fold.

The whoof went away when i swapped to leading edge control. The blades were plenty tight but not overtight, they didn't move unless i folded them.

The glitching was a wire that i didn't see coming loose and rubbing on the clutchbell.

Hovered it around after both fixes and she flies great now.

Going to a flyin tomarrow and i'll have the Raptor out a bit there and see how she does with some room to play

Good luck with it, and go over all the nuts and bolts once you've got a few more flights on it just to be sure nothing is coming loose.

Going over it after about 1/2 gallon now. I noticed it didn't want to start without spinning the blades.... I blew the clutch on an accidental hot start! Good thing i knew to hold onto the rotor head while starting eh? lol It didn't burn on the clutch long, but enough i could smell it and it cracked. Took it apart later to inspect it and sure enough, one of the shoes on it are broken.

have some on order, along with a header tank.

Love the heli so far. Have already had it inverted.

WAY different ballpark than a T-rex. no more little choppers for me!

I don't really understand what "Whoof" is. Would someone please explain this phenomenon and how to convert to leading edge control.

Thanks, and please be gentle with me. I'm from Mississippi and I don't read very fast, so type slowly.

i....s.....t....h.....i....s....s...l....o....w... ..e...n...o...u...g...h.........?

Seriously though, Whoof is described as when your near 0 pitch in your blades, you hear a loud "WHOOF" sound, similar to something flying by your ear at a high rate of speed..... and you see your blades go VIOLENTLY out of track.... like 6" or more..... if you don't kill the throttle real fast it can bend up parts in your head very quickly and crash you.

Stock Raptor is what's called trailing edge control. Meaning the links in the head and the ball links attach to the blade grips at the back of the blades. Leading edge is exactly the opposite, the blade grips attach to the control links at the front of the blade.

You need to flip a couple things on the head to do this, but it's quite easy... i did mine in about 45 min set back up ready to fly.
