Default Fliton Mini Edge 540. Questions...

I'm very tempted by the Fliton Mini Edge 540, and was wondering whether anyone has any flight reports on this plane as there does not seem to be much on the net by anyone who has actually flown it. Also tried and tested kit setups would be very much appreciated.
I would idealy like it to be able to prop hang and have enough power to pull out vertically... I have been looking at various other 3Ders (profiles and foamy types) but when i saw this and found a UK distributor not far from me, i decided to start research about this particular one in earnest.

To be able to hover and pull out competently, would i need some sort of monster engine and battery? Would the weight massively effect the flight performance? Would there be heat issues? How much can I expect to pay for all this(Currency converter ready at hand!)?
Sorry to be unleashing a series of inane questions on you all, but im quite excited by the prospect of flying this beaut of a plane!

Many thanks
F

ps.
A link, so as you know what im on about...

simply get it!
it's an awesome 3d machine an a good pattern ship!
i've put in it an hacker a30 16m with a 3s1p 2100 tp pack, it has a lot of power (almost a pick power of 350W)
bye

Funny, thats almost the exact setup I was thinking of for when I get mine. How does the new Park 480 compare to that A30? I never could just look at the specs and understand

Just maidened mine... INCREDIBLE!

This MUST be the best Mini in the world right now. SOLID flier. Didn't 3D much, first flights and all... but what a baby. Flies BIG, like a MUCH larger bird. Lands like a dream, high rates are nuts.

I'm flying light to start, a bit underpowered with an AXI 2212/20. I'll kick it up with an AXI 2808/24 at 275 watts, on a sub-20 oz bird... will be ballistic with 2100 mAH 12C. The Mini Funtana is getting retired, I'm ordering a Fliton Extra 330 Mini right away.... QUALITY is WAY better than any I've seen.

I have and would recommend the Fliton 330, only because it has more wing area and because I can tell you it is the best plane I have flown yet, giant scale or not, for harrier maneuvers and blenders. Still, if you like the looks of the Edge more, it is supposed to have the same flight characteristic as the 330, but with a slightly higher wingloading.
As for powerplant, anything more than an A30-28 would be WAY overkill!!! That A30-16 powerplant would have tremendous power-to-weight, but wingloading would be a killer!
My 330 weighs 21 ounces, ready to fly, and is powered with an Extremeflight Torque 22T/930 motor and 1320 prolite with an 11X4.7SF prop. Hovers are at half throttle and power out is good, but not rocket ship. A Hacker A20-20L would be nice, too, if you prop it for a maximum of about 17-18 amps. If you want plenty of power and are not concerned with weight, go with the A30-28, 2100 prolite, and 10X4.7 prop. It is plenty of power on my 26 ounce Katana - we're talking accelerated power-outs! This powerplant would put your Edge at about 24-25 ounces, though, so wingloading would suffer.

Excuse my ignorance but... Wingloading in simple terms means...? Is it the force applied to the wings during flight, and is this why the extra is better due to the higher wing surface area?
Bodywerks: How much did your setup come to?(The 22t/930 motor, 1320 prolite< is this a speed controller by the way) And what servos and rx are you using (I have a futaba 6eax with no crystal at the mo)? I have no kit other than my tx, how much can i expect to pay for the complete bundle? Apologies for the simpleness of the questions but i know far to little about this whole kit thing, my knowledge is limited to say the very least!

Many thanks

Wingloading is the amount of weight each square foot of wing has to lift. The more weight it has to lift, the faster the plane has to fly or it has to fly at a higher angle of attack to maintain lift. Ideally, a plane of this size should have no more than 11 ounces per square foot of wing area. I can't remember the wing area of the 330 or the Edge, but I do seem to recall 21 ounces for my 330 putting it in that ballpark.
Pricewise, my setup was about $500 US, not including a charger.
the 1320 is the battery pack. I used a Hacker 20 amp ESC, Polk's hobbies Seeker receiver, and HS-56 Karbonite micro servos. The receiver you have must be a micro receiver. Anything else would be too heavy. We're talking 20 grams, max...

I would throw my setup out for a good fit. This is the gear in my Mini Funtana. I'm going to clone it for the Edge 540. It adds about an ounce to the AUW, but that's still around 21 oz's. Much lighter than all the other Mini's out there; Mini Katana, Mini Funtana, E-Flite Mini Edge and many others I have seen comining out.

AXI 2808/24
CC Phoenix 35
3S 1500 mAH 15C, 3S 1800 mAH 12C and 3S 2100 mAH 12C
...All the Batts I use in this class are Dymond Modelsports, great value and quality.
JR 610UL Rx
4 x Dymond Modelsports D47 Servos
...4.7 grams each, more torque and faster than the HS-55 at 1/2 the weight.
APC 10x5E

I went for a light build on a first shot, but my raw bird out of the box was 2.2 oz's more than the published weight. I got a pig, but it's still way lighter than competing platforms. I built up a CF motor mount (photo) and did MANY mods to make it light and deal with reported issues like Landing Gear breaking off.

If I had hit my mid-17 oz target weight, the AXI 2212/20 would have been adequate for good verticle, but not at 20 oz's. The 2808/24 hauls my 23 oz Mini Funtana very well, vertical acceleration till you hit clouds on the 2100 mAH pulling 23 amps, 245 watts on an APC10x5E. I can still prop that setup up to 25 amps, and make ~275 watts.

This bird is a dream to fly. I can't wait to get the Extra and see that one fly too.

maybe an A30 28s it's better, less power than the 16m but less weight too and you need a smaller pack...

GreenGiant, what prop and what battery, plus what was the AUW with the original setup.....

When I was flying mine, I flew with the TP1320 3s and a 10-4.7 prop. With that setup, I had more than enough pullout for great 3D'ing.

Frankly, I think with your newly suggested setup, you'll make the airplane a tank. This airplane does not like to be heavy on the wings!

My Extra 330 3Ds great with the Hacker A20-20L and a TP 1320.
