Default TT .39 just doesnt seem to be able to hang?

I am running cool power 30% in my Raptor 30V2, TT 39. It seems to lag badly.....I just got a new set of carbons to replace the woodies, so I can turn up the rpms a little. It does it most coming in to land it seems to "roll back" to use a full scale term. Any ideas? It does it in Idle up also???? (Its not PCM failsafe, I'm using FM)

When the power lags does it catch back up within a second or so?
What head speed are you running and what are you turning it up to?
It could just be your pitch and throttle curves are not in sync and need adjustment, or it could be engine tuning.

It seems to roll back and then if I get out of the pitch it will come back up. I have been looking at the pitch curve and I think I have it too high. I will try to readjust it tonight and try it withthte carbosns this weekend.

How much pitch do you have?

I set it up initially exactly by the book. Using the indicator on the airframe, I am going to go back and use a pitch gauge and reset everything to +/- 10 degrees. What do you use for midstick pitch? Somewhere near hover pitch or there about I assume. I think I have too much pitch too early in the throttle curve.

On the side, does anyone have experience with the weston tuned pipe for the TT .39? Or which one is a good one for this engine?

As far as pitch at mid stick, some people like to hover at mid stick (+5 degrees or so), while other people (myself included) prefer a linear pitch curve. So you end up having 0 degrees at midstick and end up hovering around 3/4 stick.

If you are going to setup +/-10 then you should set up with 0 pitch at mid stick and plan to hover at 3/4.

+/- 10 might be a little much for the smaller engine.

A very worthwhile investment is in an optical tach. I like the one from Model Aviation.

Or if you have a standard tach you can strap it onto the boom and be able to read it (or preferably have someone else read it) while you are hovering at a safe distance.

That tach on the boom thing is a good idea. I have a digital one from my planks so, I'll try that. I am going to get a pitch gauge on it and re-set everything and tach it out. What RPM are you fellas running? I am hearing in the 1800-2000 range is good? (with carbons)

That rpm range is good, with carbons.
Decide on your rpm and then adjust the top end pitch to be able to hold that rpm in either a full power climb or full power forward flight.

Everything is a compromise in a heli, the setup and numbers from my "identical" setup, will likely be different from yours.
Temp, altitude, barometer, humidity, fuel, flying style and a bunch of other variables all come into your best setup. We can only give you guidelines as a place to start.

Ok, so I took it out today, and after some tuning and a little work on the pitch curve. It works great.....Tumbles loops and even a few rolls and its doing good. Thanks for the help.
