hey shank boners,
i need help. i have a venture 50 with a os hyper and no matter what i do i cant get the throttle curve to work like it should.(mainly in the idle up mix) if the curve is too low the engine bogs and if its too high the engine quits. i cant seem to find the happy medium. i have bought a gv1 hoping that this will be the answer to my problems. there is no one here that flies helis and i am at the end of my tether with this problem. i wont keep it a secret that i am a plank flier, so is it some silly ritual dance i am supposed to be doing to the heligiant gods first thing in the morning? hell, ill even slay some chickens if it will help! ive even tried using the force but obi 1 isnt with me on this one. aerowiz |

Now that you have come over to the dark side Obi 1 is no longer your friend and the force must be used differently.
How are your engine temps. a throttle curve that is to high will not normally kill an engine unless you are way off on your needles. Extremely rich will flood the engine out at full throttle and to lean will overheat and seize the engine. You should be able to put your finger on the back-plate of the engine and it should be hot but not hot enough that you have to remove your finger. If it is cold then start leaning it out. The only other option is to try a new glow plug some times, rarely, a new plug is bad out of the package. |

What fuel %, How new ?, Lots of SMOKE ? Little SMOKE ?
Sounds like you might be rich on the low, and lean on the high.... Could also be your pitch curves also not in coordination with your engine (bogging up the engine)... Your throttle curve should always just be slightly ahead of your pitch curve... IE your R's will pick up slightly before pitch is added.... Keep tinkerin' and let us know what you find ? |

guys.
a lot has happened since i reported last. there were a few tuning issues and flyinfool thanks for the backplate tuning advice. it really works. the problem i have now is that i dont think my heli has enough pitch on the rotor head. i have it set to +/-11deg and when i am going straight and level flat out, the engine is screaming its head off. does anyone have recommendations for total pitch on a 50 size heli? i have setup as per the jr manual but it doesnt seem to be enough. actually the jr manual states +/- 10 deg one thing i have noticed too is the muffler maniflod doesnt have the same sized hole as the exhaust port on the hyper. the muffler manifold has a smaller hole. would this make a difference for the engine performance. aerowiz |

Sounds like your throttle curves are high around mid stick. Are you running the gov or just off of curves alone?
Don't worry about the header hole, almost all pipes are like that. |

no i havent put the gov on yet. i want to get these curves better.
the pitch positions are as follows. hover idle up low stick -2 -11 mid stick 5 0 high stick 11 11 i am having the hyper die in flight if i am pushing it too hard for too long. could this just be that the engine is getting hot? surely it should be run in now. the needle adjustments seem to be very sensitive on both the high and low needle. i am running only 10% nitro. this engine is drinking fuel. aerowiz |

yes hypers like fuel !! Drink it like its water. +11/-11 is at the top of a 50 range in pitch... I fly with +10/-10 and Im finding its more than enough.
How old is your plug ? I always change plugs when running in a new engine after a few tanks. Are you running an OS # 8. I have always had good luck with the 8, and dont burn em too often. And also are you running a header tank ? This engine does like to scream, and in fact Im flying at 90% of throw at full stick. It definately has the ponies, but it kind of needs to be reigned in at times. Keep tinkering... It'll get there... Trial and error... T |

good news,
the problem seems to be fixed for now. the low range mixture was to rich and the top end slighty too lean. once this was fixed it made setting up the throttle curve really easy. time for a beer. ps exactly as you said toro. you da man. aerowiz |
