I have ben flying giant scale 3d for a while now, and I am looking for a good 30 heli to learn with and am looking for some advise. I already have a sim and have practiced some, but am lost when it comes to deciding on the right heli, gyro and servos. I am looking for something that I can tame down a little to learn with, but still progress with it and not be boared in a short period of time.

Probably the best thing to do is to see what the local heli guys are flying and get one of those. This way when you run into trouble or have questions the heli guys will be able to point yuou in the right direction.
That being said, I am a liitle biased toward Hirobo heli's. Their 50 size sceadu can be very stable for learning but can also rock right out of the box wihtout having to buy any upgrades. They also have a 30 size sceadu which can later be upgraded to a 50. Every time I let someone fly my Sceadu 50 they can't believe how stable it is in a hover! |

I couldn't agree more. I'll just add that if you are flying scale 3d, you'll pick up heli's pretty quick so I would skip the 30.

Right now I am trying to decide between the Sceadu 50, Raptor 50, and Caliber 50.

I would say get a Raptor 50 with a O.S. Hyper engine. But like CSpaced said, check with the guys at your field and see what they are flying since they will have to help you set it up.

All three are good choices, and there are enough of us here that fly them here to be able to help you if you get stuck. As everyone has been saying its best to see what the local guys are flying, you can't beat some hands on help down at the field!

Two really nice 30 size helis are raptor 30 and a venture 30. I own the venture 30 and it is excellent. It flys great and can fly 3d pretty well.
My dad has the raptor 30 and he does loops rolls and other responsive moves.Happy heli flying.

I second buying a .50 to learn on, I started with a R30 and started to out grow it's lack of power at 5,000 ASL in forward flight and basic aerobatics. They are more stable and auto 100 times better than the smaller heli's.

The Thunder Tiger fuselages are ready made for the Titan so if you want to go scale, thats a very easy route.
Based on the helis themselves, the Vibe 50 from JR is the best of the 50 lot right now IMO. Then I would rate the Align 600n, Titan, and EVO 50 as about even. They all do some things better than others.

May I make the suggestion to look into a small electric heli? The T-Rex 450 is very reasonable in price, come in ARF and is also a great intro to electrics and helis in one package.

The Gohbee Stinger is also an inexpensive reliable 30.
But as has been mentioned above I would recommend starting with the 50 size. You will quickly outgrow the "power" of a 30. It is not much of a cost difference between a 30 and a 50 when starting fresh, to upgrade later is a lot more $$$.
